i know this is old but on my ‘74 i had to put a brace in from box to opposite frame rail. forgot where i got it but it bolts right up in minutes and solved my final bit of wandering.

I've heard that also, but what I found out is that the steering gear brackets that were stamped steel would flex. Mine is thick cast iron and doesn't flex that I can see. Thanks for the input.

Got it from O'Reilly Auto Parts, $61.99, it's a saginaw type pump with reservoir that was for that year Jeep and engine. part# MPP 732-2114. I made the top bracket that bolts to the head with 2x3 angle and a piece of square tubing for pivot bolt, the bottom brackes I bought online that was universal for a chevy I believe, came with all kinds of parts and didn't cost much at all. Top bolt was the pivot point and the bottom brackets had the curve for adjusting. Pretty easy to make it work.

@@simonsautorepair8082 Don't have that info , but the one for whatever year you have should work. I ordered mine for a 1974 CJ5 and fit perfect, I also had the cast iron mount on my frame, not the stamped steel. All but 1 bolt is used and fits perfect and does not move at all. This might be a problem if yours is not cast iron because the stamped steel ones are weak and will crack. They have aftermarket ones that are strong.

Nice work, I’m doing exactly the same thing on my 1974 RHD CJ6 with 232 (I’m in Australia). It’s a slow work in progress job, however in my case I have swapped the stock bell coupler joint for a Flaming River steering column/u-joint arrangement. Hopefully this will also remove some play. In terms of the power steering pump and the both pulleys (pump and crank), can you please share the part #s and supplier details? I’m also mounting mine like yours as my alternator is on the left side, and managed to track down some NOS brackets from a suitable AMC sedan. Do you also intend to update the suspension bushings and shackles? I’ll be doing mine as I have a huge amount of play there too. Best of luck with conversion, I’m keen to see your findings.

The bolt-on crank pulley I got from Quadratec, Omix #17460.02, cost $15.99 plus tax/shipping. This pulley said it has a 1.8" hole for crank but I had to use a round file to remove paint and cleaned the crank the best I could. Barely fit but didn't force it. The pump pulley I got off Amazon, A-Team Performance tapered shaft with keyway, cost $19.99 plus tax/shipping. The only thing I don't like is there's not enought threads on the pump I got so a locknut or lock washer doesn't fit. Not sure if the pulley is too fat, but I'll get it to work, maybe find a thinner nut. Having heartburn trying to find the correct pressure line hose, auto part stores are baffled, love stumping them for some reason. I have the page out of the shop manual that clearly shows everything on passenger side but in 2 different versions. I want it correct but no Mickey Mouse. Anything else I can help with just let me know. Good luck with your project

What shims did you use.. do you have the dimensions
@Pitlane326

Dan, used 6 degree shims that are 1-3/4" wide by 5" long. Someone mentioned that 8 degree shim might have been better but have not tried that yet. Hope this helps

Maybe you have a V8, the shop manual shows all fan belt layouts with the different engine packages they offered and this inline 6 cylinder is on the passager side.
