This game has a 'Pre-Jet' sweep move with Dave Casper going inside... The Utah Utes made it an outside move & 25+ yards called the "Jet Sweep."

I know over the years the Broncos linebackers, especially Gradishar and Jackson get talked about and rightfully so. But those defensive backs Thompson, Wright, Foley and Jackson were studs.

I vividly recall reading somewhere that Stabler played with a hurt throwing arm (or hand) that season. I just can''t member what the injury was. Whatever it was it prevented him from putting the same zip on the ball as he had in previous seasons. This undoubtedly contributed to the 30 interceptions he threw.

No, he wasn't injured. What happened in 78 to Stabler was he got divorced. It was really nasty divorce.

The best TE for the Raiders was Billie Cannon with Raymond Chester tied with Dave Casper! Those two were pretty amazing when the Raiders got Chester back from the Colts just in time for the Raiders to have a double TE threat with Casper and Chester.Todd Christensen was a Dallas Cowboy originally.

Both were great, but I have to lean towards Casper. He was not only a scoring machine, especially in the clutch much like T.C. but was a tremendous blocker. He was the best that I saw in the 70's

@Koichi Nishi Maybe, but I'd rather believe it's gradual mineral depletion lost over the years from perspiration that has killed most athletes. Nonreplentished electrolytes and vitamin C to aid circulation can lead to stroke, heart attack and certain cancers.

Nothing more than a "what if", but damn it would have been nice to have seen John Ralston's offense with Morton instead of the shitty offense of Red Miller. Irrelevant, all parties mentioned have passed away, still, I think Ralston would have been better.
@johnlevalley521

Youre so right. If they had a better and more consistent offense they could have gotten back to the Super Bowl because their defense was just as good as the Steelers in 78 and 79.
@lesschoenberger3070

@@johnlevalley521 Ralston tried to trade for Jim Plunkett and also Greg Landry but the deals fell through. It's too bad that Charley Johnson was at the end of the road and wasn't playing in 1976 and beyond, I'm sure they would've made the playoffs in '76 with him in there. Red Miller was so conservative on offense, he played field position and didn't want the offense to make a mistake, but they had great weapons that they could've used to open the game up a lot more like Odoms, Moses, Dolbin, Upchurch, Armstrong and more but Red went with a "platoon" running back by committee offense and had Morton only throw when really needed. And had he put Morton in the shotgun in the Dallas Super Bowl I think it would've helped him buy some more time rather than be crushed by Doomsday.
@RetroRider6689

Some great points. Otis Armstrong was a tremendous running back with two 1,000 yard rushing seasons to his credit when Miller became coach in 1977. I could never understand why they platooned him in his final 4 years. Armstrong was off to a great start in 1980 until a neck injury sidelined him the rest of his career.

+jredwine 12 This game was a Sunday nighter on ABC. 1978. Anyway can you obtain the Pittsburgh Steelers at L.A. Ram 10-7 game? 1 of the 2 losses by the Steelers that year, 1978 the other one to the Houston Oilers 24-17 on a Monday night. The best defensive game I have ever seen to this day. Rams-Steelers 10-7.

As you saw here it was very difficult to run outside against this Denver defense, they were just too quick and would beat you to the sideline and shut it down.

The Broncos stripe sequence [orange pants] should be similar to the stripe sequence on the helmet...since they're pairing them with the blue helmet it just looks better that way...However blue pants to match the helmet would've rocked.
