My dad took me to the regular season game- my first ever Husker game. I love watching these two teams run the option. Billy Sims was sensational, Rick Berns ran so hard, but there has never been a greater name in college football than I.M. Hipp!!!

Richard Berns was a powerful runner and he wasn't slow either. He was pretty fast. Hipp however was the first Husker Running back to run under 4.4. Isiaha really struggled with injuries in 78. And never got over the turf toe, although he started out with a big game in 1979 rushing for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. I wish someone had highlights of the game in 1977 where Lee Corso's Indiana team came to Lincoln. Corso said if "We can limit Berns to under a hundred yards we've got a good chance. Rick got knocked out of the game with bruised ribs in the first quarter. Injury aside , Corso thought he was getting a break. To paraphrase, "We practiced all week to stop Berns, we never practiced to stop this other kid! That other kid being I.M. Hipp who came off the bench and ran for 254 yards!

Billy Sims was one the greatest running back talents of all-time, period. Should’ve been a two time Heisman winner, and had all the makings of a HOF NFL running back if it wasn’t for injuries.

This game was SWEET REVENGE for the Sooners who had that ONE loss against Nebraska in Lincoln earlier that year! Yet another National Championship eluded Oklahoma that year! It was so unusual that they met twice in a year! This was a rivalry that mirrored Michigan and Ohio State! One of the best rivalries EVER!

After finally beating the Sooners in Lincoln, Nebraska running back Rick Berns bragged that he could now speed through Oklahoma and not get a ticket. Days later Oklahoma was chosen as their opponent in the Orange bowl and the Cornhuskers were not happy.

The halftime show was a salute to the entertainment phenomenon, disco, which would literally crash and burn that summer at Chicago's Comiskey Park. One of the sponsors on NBC was National Airlines, Florida's hometown airline seen by Europeans as a superb international airline, but sold by year's end to another superb international airline with Miami roots, Pan Am. NBC was plugging itself as home of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, but Jimmy Carter and the Red Army would throw a wrench in those plans.

Need to show the phone call in which the Orange Bowl representative invited both OU and Nebraska for a rematch. Switzer accepted, Nebraska coach Tom Osborne and athletic director Bob Devaney were hesitant in accepting. Because they were scared of meeting OU again.

Both of these teams were great running teams.... However, they were not as balance as the SEC teams today.... Today, throwing is as much as running...... They would probably go 60 to 70 percent in their wins....
