Can anyone name a better college offensive line than USC's that season? Munoz is a Hall of Famer, Van Horne played forever with the Bears, Foster was a Pro Bowl player and longtime Dolphins starter, Budde started a lot of games with the Chiefs, and Foote had starts with the Vikings. And Brenner, the tight end, also had a long NFL career.

what a crushing loss. we had no business getting there undefeated, but we did. My senior year. And I was there in person to see it all.

Bruce turned things around with Schlicter. Great college QB but a sad fall from grace. USC needed monster game and last minute heroics from White to win.

The original Sir Charles. If I would pick one drive and one back to be the best of all the Trojans, it would be Charles White on that last scoring drive. He could not and would not be stopped. The game, the national ranking was on the line. Quality opponent, national audience. Heart of a lion.

I was an 18 year old USC freshman who got a sideline pass to this game from my aunt (who was the team photographer). What an epic experience being on the field in front of 100K fans and watching Heisman winner Charles White run over Ohio State for the win. This USC team had 45 NFL draft picks, 2 Heisman winners, 4 NFL Hall of Famers and numerous All-Americans on the roster. This team is considered by many historians to be the greatest college football team of all time, despite not winning the National Title because of a tie with Stanford.

I was a junior at tosu in '79-'80, and after the bucks knocked off um in ann arbor to finish a surprising undefeated regular season/big 10 title, my grandmother surprised me w/$300 to pay for a student rose bowl trip. first time on a plane, first time west of the mississippi, first time drinking coors beer (seemed revolutionary at the time-lol), a lot of tourist stuff (disneyland, san diego zoo, farmers market, cbs television city, multiple beaches, seeing dick van dyke in the music man at the pantages) and some not so touristy stuff (like getting lost making a booze run as dusk set and having an lapd motorcyle cop volunteer direction back to my hotel, since i'd apparently wandered into watts and he thought me wearing a tosu sweatshirt made me stand out in the wrong way). even on 4 hours sleep, the parade was surprisingly amazing, and there is no better cfb setting than the rose bowl.

In retrospect, it was amazing that anybody could stay with that USC team. Their names read like a "who's who" of 1980's NFL Pro Bowl rosters. I was an Ohio St undergrad. It was painful to watch that final SC drive...

The most heartbreaking loss I’ve experienced as a Buckeyes fan, that was a stacked USC team and the Buckeyes should have beat them but too many missed opportunities and good teams like USC made them pay for it.

I always felt bad for the Big 10 in this bowl when they had to play USC, UCLA, or Stanford. It was basically a home game for the California teams.
