Watched this game on TV with my dad, we had just moved to Florida, I was 13 years old and became a lifelong Hurricanes fan the night this game was played. Good memories.

Me either. Especially literally one game after their upset win over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl WITH Jimmy Johnson coaching his first game btw.

Auburn played Miami, Texas, FSU and Georgia Tech as its OOC games in 1984. Always played brutal schedules. This game and the FSU 42-41 win later in the season is why Dye changed his philosphy and went pro-I formation in 1985. AU couldnt pass or stop the elite passing teams until he changed things up. The 80s were a great decade for AU.

Kosar controlled this game and Alonzo Highsmith out played Bo Jackson. Alonzo had 140 yards and Bo was held to under 100 yards. #ItsAllAboutTheU 🙌

Jimmy Johnson had heard of BO Jackson, no way BO was going to beat MIAMI. MIAMI defense was keyed on BO all night. Besides, Auburn QB were not known for their passing attack. Auburn was a wish bone running team with BO Jackson leading the way. Great Miami team, played hungry!

Milestone moment for Miami (FL). Brand new coach and staff. First time that the white facemasks appeared. The kickoff classic was a marquee game to "kick off" the new NCAA D1 season pitting two top teams with unresolved business from the previous year (1983 K.O.C. featured Nebraska vs Penn State with the Nittany lions as defending champions but Nebraska felt like they were robbed that season in happy valley). January 2, 1984, Nebraska was #1, Texas was #2, Auburn was #3, and Miami was #4. Georgia upset Texas in the cotton bowl, Auburn beat Michigan in the sugar bowl setting the stage for that night's Orange Bowl. Auburn felt like they should have been given the title but the Michigan team they beat 20-16 was not on the level of the rolling red cornhusker juggernaut that miami beat.

Life long Bama fan here and all I heard from January 1st till this game was "Auburn should have been 83 Champions." This was the first game of the 84 season and the Auburn war chickens were still crying about the National Championship of 1983. They claimed they were robbed and this game would show who was the best team. Miami had a new coach and a new starting QB and they still whipped them! Good times!

1983 had nothing to do with the 84 team uat crimson turd fan. Auburn played the toughest schedule in the nation in 83 something uat would know nothing about, and should have been Natl champs. As far this game Aub was driving late for the winning score but fumbled. the U were a bunch of cheating thugs. War Eagle always!

That's a joke. 2009 wasn't near as tough a schedule as Auburns 83. Not even close. I'm not going to respond or read anymore stupid responses because I know I'm right.

Forgot how great of a game that was. Not sure how a college QB overthrows two wide open TDs by 10 yards but Pat Washington did it. Also, props to the Miami LB that soccer tackled Bo Jackson to save the game. Love the 80s refs😆😆

Elite qb play can beat 5 star talent. It’s the great equalizer. Kosar could process and make good decisions better than anyone college football had seen at that time. He was the guy really instrumental in bringing Miami to the mountain top. He made them which then allowed Miami to get elite south Florida talent and then National talent

Auburn ran such a stupid and antiquated offense. Wasting talent- it was criminal. Miami was just ahead of the game back then
