KP61 was one of the fastest car on the mountain especially narrow road. 35 years ago, my 18 years boyfriend had it and was driving it at Mt Rokko at night. I was only 17 and used his KP61 for my driving lesson, I learned very quickly. I miss Japan.

I was down in the workshop a few months ago before lockdown, with Andres mate Nick. I had a brief look at your starlet, I find this a very interesting build As I am also building a track starlet. Although mine will be powered by a 1UZFE. I hope you don’t mind, I am going to copy your watts link setup. I am very interested to see some more of this project!

Genuine question = I know it looks better but is there an actual reason everyone orientates the dimple die swage inwards on parts? Especially like in the cross brace under the car as you have here? I see it a lot and wonder (especially with an off road vehicle that will be smashing through dirt and mud etc) if it would be better to have them pressed outward allowing endless evacuation of the rail instead of becoming a perfectly designed area to collect/trap debris and moisture etc.? Obviously aesthetically, inward looks much nicer but sure function would outweigh form under a car? Not judging, genuinely interested?

If you mount both ends of the watts link at the same height (halfway down the shock travel) you also have parallel arms, but the lowest point of the car would be higher

One of my favorite rally moments was a finish toyota starlet( group H) on tarmac. I think it was a 1.6 and going 12000rpm or so. It was destroying anything in its class but for some wrc, 911 gt3 and some other crazy group H cars. I think the starlet finished 7th overall

What's going on with the slot at the rear of the car? Was that just to slide the floor in and out during fab work making it easier? Is he grafting on another rear panel later? For the body kit, will the car get fibreglass flares or will he fab steel ones to meet the wheel arch extensions? Oh and one more, the gearbox, sequential or some kind of T50? Apologies for all the questions! I love a good KP rally car.

@@tvanduyl I know it's been spit roasted, using the existing bumper mounting holes, but if you watch from the opening shot there's a slot about an inch wide just below where the boot shuts and it's the width of the car pretty much.

Why did you decide against a triangulated 4 or 3 link configuration? Interested in hearing more about the damper assemblies as we will be doing something similar with an s30 Datsun chassis.
@2011metalmaniac
4 жыл бұрын
This setup is very common on classic rally escorts. 4 link and 3 and links are adequate for straight line drag racing or off slow off roading. In rally the suspension is working extremely hard trying to keep the wheels on the ground and maintain traction
@NoClassic
4 жыл бұрын
2011metalmaniac I don’t understand your comment given that what is show in the video is a 4 link configuration.
@2011metalmaniac
4 жыл бұрын
@@NoClassic yes you are correct however it is a parallel 4 link set up not a triangulated type. A watts linkage has better control over lateral movement of the axle in cornering. There would be no need to triangulate the 4 link if the axle has a watts linkage
@NoClassic
4 жыл бұрын
@@2011metalmaniac Yes I understand the function of a watts link and triangulation in terms of axle positioning. Your initial comment was confusing.
@2011metalmaniac
4 жыл бұрын
@@NoClassic ye re reading my answer i can see. i was trying answer your original question. In summary then the lateral control of a watts linkage is superior to the lateral control a triangulated system or 3 link set up could ever offer as those later systems allow for some side flex which you dont want in a rally car.
