Ironically, Aikman played for and won Super Bowls with both coaches in this game - Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer!

what is ironic about it?

He broke a leg in this game. Thanks to Jimmy Johnson, LoL. Oklahoma wins a national championship with a true freshman quarterback. And then Aikman transfers to UCLA. Dallas changes ownership and hires Jimmy Johnson. His first pick goes to Aikman. After winning 2 superbowls he either quits or gets fired. Switzer takes over and wins a Superbowl . You just can't make this stuff up. 😂

Totally agree and the 90s were great as well. Today they throw kids out of the game for making a good play, so now everyone tries to arm tackle and you've got rugby scrums every other play. One side pushes one way, the other pushes the other and it just looks ridiculous. Barely watchable for me anymore.

It's closer ballgame if Aikman doesn't get hurt from viewing these highlights. Aikman is able to make throws down field that Jamele Holieway couldn't make. They're down 20 at one point and still running the wishbone taking 7 precious minutes off the clock before a scoring that last touchdown. That's not happening if Aikman's under center.

Back then Owen field had a very pronounced centerline crown, if you were running towards the sideline you were going downhill. This is evident in some of the camera shots, the yardage lines look bent, the center of the field is dryer & therefore lighter in color.

Troy Aikman running the wishbone for Oklahoma was very sluggish. Against Miami Troy was very good because of the balance of play calling. Ironically Troy was the best chance to beat Miami with his incredible arm. Jamelle & Charles Thompson was not successful trying to beat Miami. The wishbone is a great offense if your players are far superior than your opponent. Miami was able to match Oklahoma talent wise and stiffened with Stubbs & the rest of Miami defense. OU left many points off the board by blocks & misses in this game. Tony Casillas & Spencer Tillman were injured but a huge part of the talent for OU. Jimmy Johnson finally got the talent he didn’t have at OSU. Miami was a pure marriage with his Pro Style offense with Testaverde, Blades & Irvin a freshman on the wideouts. Miami just crushed at least 2 more National Titles for Oklahoma in the mid 80’s. With the same feelings Oklahoma crushed many Florida State dreams in the late 70’s. Sometimes your the hammer & sometimes the nail. The player that gets missed against Miami is the QB Eric Mitchell. Mitchell had the speed & power to change the complexion against a Miami team. If Eric Mitchell stayed at QB when Holieway got his knee injured Switzer might have been able to keep coaching along side Osborne.

Much of what you say is true, but the end of it is wrong. It makes it sound like Switzer's career at OU ended because of games won and lost. That is not why Switzer was forced to resign at OU. It had nothing to do with winning games or losing games. He was forced to resign due to a scandal which included criminal proceedings against several OU players. Charles Thompson selling drugs was one incident. Bernard Hall and Nigel Clay were charged with rape. Also, another player (Jerry Parks) was accused of shooting teammate Zarak Peters. These three incidents were the reason OU interim president David Swank forced Switzer to resign.
