Hearing Charlie Jones call a 4pm Chargers game reminds of the most comforting time of my life. Lazy Sunday afternoons watching Football. Especially if my mom didn't make me go to Sunday night church service. I'm thinking maybe I should have went to more of those though looking at the world today.

So comforting to me to watch these '80s AFC West matches as well, Shane (as a Seahawks fan but who appreciated our very formidable opponents Fouts, Joiner & Co.). This is the football of my youth. I'd rather watch these old games than the weird video game-over-commercialized, over-politicized crap the NFL is peddling today.

Seahawks 49, Chargers 35. This was also the year the Seahawks alternated every two wins with two losses, finishing 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

IIRC, they could still have made the playoffs if they had won that last game. I can still see that final attempt at a FG miss in the closing seconds. I believe it was against Denver.

Man what a cool rivalry back in the 80's the Seahawks and Bolts always be blood boiling and mostly high scoring especially with Dave Kreig. 😊 Espically the thriller in the Kingdome on MNF in 1986. Charlie Jones and Sam Rutiligo on the call for this game on NBC at 4pm in 1985. Good ol Jack Murphy

Watching the nfl in chronological order. These Seahawk teams in the early 80s had the burden of being in the afc West. You had Denver L.A. and San Diego in your division ouch. And to make matters worse a garbage KC spoils there number 2 seed spot in 84. This game was a case of exploiting a rookie cb.

Who the hell is this east coast old fool calling the game with Charlie? Everyone is a number and he always screams “BLITZ!” I didn’t think I’d dislike anyone more than Merlin Olson calling a Hawks game. This guy proved me wrong. I always liked Don Crickey & Bob Trumpy calling the game.

Don Criqui & Bob Trumpy were a good tandem, but I almost always never saw them call anything other than AFC Central games in the midwest during their time with NBC. I liked Merlin Olsen! So what if he did FTD Flower commercials xD lol, that dude was a phenom with the Rams back in the 1960's. He definitely knew a thing or two about playing defense. I would have loved to have heard Deacon Jones do color commentary on a few of those west coast games. That dude was glib as hell and would have been entertaining! Thanks for the upload!

The Chargers' pathetic excuse for a "defense" gave up 34 or more points *six times* that season. A high school football team could have moved the ball up and down the field against them. Tom Bass is easily one of the worst defensive coordinators in NFL history.

@@beaubbyvagnert7035 But no longer had one of the best offenses you'll ever see, as they did in the early to mid 80s. If they had merely had a *mediocre* defense in those days, they would've won at least two AFC Championships and at least one Super Bowl. But instead they had one of the worst defenses ever, and so never even appeared in a Super Bowl. Over the course of a six-year period, no team in NFL history has lost anywhere near as many games as Coryell's Chargers did *despite* scoring 24 or more points. And then there's the amazing number of games they just barely managed to win despite scoring *34* or more points.

Coach Tom was fired soon after and Dave Adolph took over. In week 7 Adolph replaced rookie cornerback Wayne Davis #20 with another rookie John Hendy #29. Adoplh simplified the 3-4 defense and there was a marked improvement in defensive play. Rookie safety Jeff Dale #37 and rookie cornerback John Hendy #29 were both named to many NFL All Rookie teams. I know I was there. I'm John Hendy. Next to having my son, it was the time of my life!! Also "F Seattle" hahaha I had friends on that team. We still talk s*** to each other to this day. Jeff Dale and I have done well post football careers btw also Wayne Davis (RIP) Danny Walters and I were sh*t this game. Wayne peaked in the backfield too much, Danny had a bad groin and I only had one week of training camp and zero preseason. That was a brutal home game --
