This was the final win of Cale Yarborough's legendary career, which included 83 Cup Series wins, 5 Southern 500 wins, 4 Daytona 500 and 4 Firecracker 400 wins, three successive NASCAR championships, as well as 5 IROC wins and the 1984 IROC title.

Yes sir. Cale was a ironman. After him and Ramo Story got together at Darlington, and Cale went out of the race track flipped a couple times climbed out pulled out his comb to comb his hair and said "I almost had 'em." Incredible. That showed just how tough Cale was. Fearless. One of the ALL TIME GREATS.

@@gregorygolden1296 If you're referring to the incident in the 1965 Southern 500 in which Cale went over the wall at what's now turn 3, it was actually Sam McQuagg he got together with when they were battling for the lead in that race, with LeeRoy Yarbrough, who Cale had a number of great duels with in 1968 and '69, also getting entangled in the crash. Ramo Stott was not yet driving in some of the big NASCAR races. That wouldn't come for a few years.

I always thought the Camaro fbody was such a beautiful looking car. And then realized I loved the Dodge Daytona IROC as much or more. Today it would be a tough decision to pick which car to run. I was always impressed at how well the Camaro and Monte Carlo designs did at speeds close to 200mph. The drivers also seemed to have fondness for the Daytona IROC cars. These were good times.

What if they took these old cars, put today’s “Driver” in them? We could see who can actually drive and who just holds the wheel. Could be interesting and I might even watch?
