@@aftacomics5865 I did not like some of the comics in the late 70s and up, but mostly collected Silver Age in the 80s. It was early Brone Age for me. I did not enjoy them as much as when I discovered them as a kid in the early 70s.

That was a really fun flashback to 1988. I agree, something will always be special about the square bound comic. Thank you for documenting this. What a fun job working on Sundays at a comic book store- how would one go about asking for a raise!?

Let me start by saying, it's great to have a video from you! And it's another great piece of comic book history. ••• I have a few of these annuals but only the ones for the titles I was getting monthly. Maybe because I didn't get the whole picture, I don't remember anything about the story. I was getting tired of the huge multipart stories that were forced into totally unrelated titles.

I get what you're talking about. In the 60's and 70's a "Cross over" was not common. That changed in the 2nd part of the 80's.

Always great to get a new video from you Allen! This was around the time I started to drift away from Marvel. One of the reasons was exactly because of these long summer crossovers. It wasn't too bad when it was limited to annuals, but soon the mega crossovers would span multiple issues from multiple series. Of course, DC would also be doing the same gimmick. On these specific annuals, I think the coloring job on the promo poster must have been rushed, because the more subdued colors on the actual issues are all much more refined and clear, in my humble opinion. I think the only ones I got were Punisher and Silver Surfer, not because they were particularly good (I don't think they were) but just because I collected their regular series at the time. I'm not even sure I kept them in my collection. The one I know I have is the Amazing Spider-Man Annual which had that cool old school cover by inked by my favorite Spidey artist John Romita Sr. Plus a team-up with Daredevil and the intro of a new Ditko creation Speedball! Still the best of the whole lot of these annuals if you ask me.

Hello there! I loved this summer for collecting, but I agree, it was starting to get out of hand with all the cross overs in both marvel and DC after this. I quite buying new books in 2002.

Say Allen, long time no hear. Hope the radio career is doing well. Nice to see you are still collecting comics. Now about the topic. Your topic is important to me, because not enough fans or collectors or channels, talk about the great Annuals of many comic books that are out there. Sometimes, Annuals can have great stories. Thanks for sharing. AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Following a story in a foreign market is way different. Overe here, the 1988 Annuals event was a 2-issue mini-series, each issue with 192 pages of stories (published circa 1992). I find it kind of funny how the adaptation to an editorial direction ends up creating a whole different product, that steers away from out the licensor normally did, and that was nothing like the US market was doing either.
