I was at this race with my father. I was 6 years old. He passed away 3 years ago. I miss him everyday. Sometimes I come back to this video just to sit, watch and reminisce on all the good times we had together...

I have gone to Pocono since 1990. I was huge DW fan back than. My heart broke when he wrecked in Daytona 1990 and could not race the whole july pocono race. ( My first ever race ) He started it but was replaced by Jimmy Horton..a guy who loved this track and had good results in ARCA, but of course this Cup series is second to none. ..... So 2 years later (1992) watching DW win on fuel Mileage was prob the single greatest live event I have ever seen.( At that time) Watching him win that race on gas mileage made it worth every cent I ever spent on a poster or die cast car etc. He was my idol back than. Than there was this race. My cousin Jamie and I went. There was a rain delay but we had a great time and felt real good and to finally see my OLD hero ( at the time) DW lead some laps was amazing. I lost my mind. Ill never forget those laps ever. DW was my hero for a such a long time. So this race will always have a special meaning to me. Ha. Lol. I remember back than how people were happy for Jeremy Mayfield. In the end this was all a good long awaited finish to this race. Ill never forget attenting this race with my cousin. Let's just just say we drank a little too much since there was a typical July Pocono rain delay. To see Mayfield get his first win in the style he did against Earnhardt was a sight to see for sure.

Jeremy Mayfield's first NASCAR win. He had just turned 29 the month before. Statistically, 1998 would prove to be his best season, with 1 win, 12 top 5s, 16 top 10s, a pole, an average finish of 14.2 and would finish the year 7th in the point standings. He actually briefly gained the points lead with this victory.

Best comment: only a few of the drivers here are in their 20's. So different from now.

This was my first NASCAR race I attended. Sad to see my favorite driver Bill Elliott blow his engine, my sister's favorite driver Jeff Gordon and brothers favorite driver Dale Jarrett nearly won. Cool to see DW nearly win and see Jeremy get his first win. Also cool to see Todd Bodine and that sweet looking Tabasco ride in the ride

At about 9:50, Jeff Gordon drags the brakes to ensure Rusty gets to the green first. At about 11:30, Eli announces that Rusty got black flagged.

Rick Mears has a terrific argument against that rule just after the start of the Detroit Grand Prix in 1993.

Rusty jumped the flag, you can actually see him pull ahead of Gordon before the flag waved. Gordon did not leave off the gas let alone "drag the brakes". And yea, after Rusty intentionally wrecking Gordon at Richmond a couple weeks earlier, you knew they were going to send Rusty to the back.

So anyone who honestly believes NASCAR doesn't manipulate races, just look at the Mayfield-Wonder boy pit-road penalty around the 1:18 mark. By now everyone knows about Dale Sr's "Extra" button on his steering wheel that had Bill France Jr on the other end of that line & then along comes Wonder boy! 🤨 What a crock! 💩
