when a 32 year old toy has more geometrical detail and durability than a present day eaglemoss model
@obsidiansands
5 жыл бұрын
And almost none of the QA errors that most of the eaglemoss models have. I guess that's why they're so "cheap". More than half of them have window alignment errors. I respect eaglemoss for having the balls to make them, but that respect is tempered by the sometimes crappy way they've handled QA on it. It is sometimes worth your money to actually buy the 3D printed model than the eaglemoss one, even if it is more expensive.

Yeah I feel like toys today are just getting more lazy with detailing
@koloth5139
5 жыл бұрын
@@CRXnick I don't think it is lazy so much as intentional cost cutting. Less detail means less work in both the molding process and the paint application. Though honestly I don't understand why they don't just sell unpainted model kits. I still have my AMT Enterprise E from 23 year ago. Sure I wasn't great at the paint application when I was 17 but it looks pretty decent. There are people out there though that could make these things look like miniature studio models.

Yeaaaaaahhhh... not so much. I had a half dozen of these and the nacelles were often bent in, the paint came off almost as soon as you bought it, and that rubber lip that held the saucer on was cheap. I loved this toy, but durable? Eh.

I was young and going to visit my estranged grandmother in Oregon the year these released. I went to a mall KayBee toys where all the STNG toys were on clearance. This hefty die cast Enterprise was perfect for me as I was previously a fan of Star Wars micro Die cast and eventually Kenner’s MEGAFORCE I was blown away by the substantial nature of this toy enjoying the scale to embark on imaginative missions throughout the trip in the verdant green forests of the north. .

I have one of these! Once, as a kid, I was zooming around with the ship and was holding it above my face as I reclined in bed. The saucer chose this moment to break free from the engineering hull and crash into the bridge of my nose. Left a pretty substantial welt there for a while, nothing broken... Just bruised by awesome diecast power. Still loved that toy.

Here is an interesting tail of woe regarding this particular toy. It was the early 90s and I was in elementary school, my second grade classroom had a toy box which had this in it. There was these two guys who fought over the toy all the time. It was like clockwork as soon as we broke to play with toys those two knuckleheads with Sprint over to the box and whoever got it first one the day. There was nothing that the teacher could do nor was there anything that she wanted to do about the situation. I was a big truck fan back in those days but I had my own Star Trek toys to go home too so I was not in any kind of hurry to join those two dummies in their quest for enterprise D dominance. I am really glad that this video mentioned the fact that this toy was particularly heavy and made from diecast metal. This is where the story gets interesting! One day one of those enterprising, see what I did there, young lads decided that he was going to get that toy at all cost. My guy sprinted over to the toy box got his hands on that toy and when the other kid tried to snatch it from his hands The guilty attempted snatcher was the recipient of an enterprise D saucer section right over the head. It was a bad cut, blood was gushing. That kid ended up having to go to the hospital and getting several stitches to close the gash that that all metal enterprise phasered into his head. Needless to say, we never saw that toy again.

Logged millions of imagination light years with that damn thing. The second one i got I found at a toy fair about 9 yrs ago I guess. Just sitting in its plastic shipping container but no packaging. But it was pristine. Flawless. And they sold it to me for 5 bucks. You’d swear i found the holy grail. I was so thrilled. Love the heavy metal construction and the cool (and never repeated???) saucer separation function. The packaging said there was a feringi ship but i never saw one. Did that never actually exist?
