that reference manual has been exceptionally handy - thanks so much for posting it. Wow, I just re-watched this because I am going through my '13 B8 A4 CAEB motor and I had a ticking that I suspected was a lifter, turned out to be intake on cylinder 2, this was a great memory refresher on the placement of the cams - and went with the slime D154 103 A1 $80, wow that is liquid gold. Great video and I would love more stuff on intake, upper head and suspensions on the B8 platforms. Great video

Hey NaptownTuner. Great videos, not only informational, funny as well lol. Much appreciated. If you would make a complete video step by step how to replace the leaky Anaerobic sealant! I really would like to see the proper way of fixing the timing related parts before you remove all 22 bolts and & pull up the cam tray so it does not mess up the timing; rockers/camshafts etc. And how and where you apply the Anaerobic sealant around the parameter! And finally, show putting back the cam tray and torqueing sequence and how much! I would really appreciate it!

I know this is an old comment, but I have a correction - you would want to use Permatex Anaerobic Gasket Maker, not their anaerobic flange sealant. The flange sealant, per Permatex, is not to be used on aluminum as it can cause putting. The part number for the Anaerobic Gasket Maker from Permatex is 51813. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Great explanation as always. I did my cam tray few weeks ago because it had an oil leak and after the first start engine start ticking. No errors yet as I shut it off almost right away and timing seems to be ok, lines up perfectly with the cams and crank mark. Pulled the covers off and looks like I got the old timing chain tensioner and the chain itself got stretched so will replace these first and see how it sounds after. Did you ever experience that and should I look for anything else while I’m in there?
@NaptownTuner

Pop out the screen like I show in the camshaft bridge video, pop off the front case like I show in that video then I have a video of sealing the case. Plus the timing chain videos. Make sure your rockers / rollers are all good. Might film slapping a head on tonight

The detent ball sprung out of my camshaft once. I looked for it for hours before I declared it a lost cause. If this ever happens to anyone have your local Audi dealer pull up a parts diagram of the exhaust camshaft, you are able to get both the ball and spring separately and are only a few bucks each. Don’t throw out your expensive camshaft!!

Thanks for the info! Is there a special procedure for setting the exhaust cam solenoids properly? Or, will they set themselves when you rotate the engine 2 times by hand?
@NaptownTuner
3 жыл бұрын
The pins or special tools that the dealer has to slide the cams, first off nobody in their garage is gonna use those and I only used them the very first time I ever did the job. I’ll explain in a different video how to remove the head with the cam tray still installed without using the pins as well. But to answer your question yes it will reset itself on the first test drive, if not the first time you start the engine. It switches over at 4K rpm so it’s always a must to run the engine over 4K rpm on a test drive any time you do any work on these just to make sure no faults set. I’ve never had a problem on the hundreds of piston jobs I’ve done through the years
