I can't think of one time I've been out shooting one of my guns and either needed or wanted to change the barrel. For me each rifle is a tool for a specific job, I simply don't have time to tinker and tune. I want to setup a rig to shoot how I like it to and just leave it. As you mentioned it's just not as simple as swapping a barrel, lots more is involved. Love the videos 😊👍

Mountain my man. You bet the older I get the less tinkering I want to do..... Thanks for backing me up on that as far as just swap the rifle and shoot 1 inch groups out of every caliber. Thanks and dig your videos as well.

Great video and great points on both sides. Another con against two barrels is if you have something happen to the gun, then you are done until its fixed. A pro is that quality optics get rather spendy. I actually have an AR with interchangeable barrels. I can go from 5.56 to 300 blackout in about 15 seconds. But then I have to rezero the scope and check the windage charts. Its useful to be able to do both but its not as easy as it sounds. I just got my BRK Ghost in 177, but with a 25 cal barrel also. It was $700 with magazine. Part of the reason I got it is I wanted to see how the ghost does for HFT, but also wanted to be able to reach out to longer ranges and hit harder. It did save me some money initially, but I likely will decide on one caliber to stick with and get another rifle should I need it. I liken back to tools, kayaks etc. Always choose the right tool for the job. Same with shooting. Use the right rifle for the purpose at the time.

You make some interesting points for and against. I prefer to have the optimum equipment (tool, fishing rod, rifle etc) for the job and spend a good amount of time tuning and tweaking for the best performance. I'd rather not have to tear apart one setup to reconfigure for another purpose. The closest I come to two barrels is to have a slug liner for my Impact so I can experiment with slugs before reverting to pellets. I bought a Panthera to shoot slugs but if the stock (700mm) barrel doesn't like JSB Monster Redesigns I'll get a pellet liner for it as well. All my shooting is 128 yards or less, I don't "need" to shoot slugs. To cover (extreme) opposite requirements (e.g. .177 to .30 caliber) I think that having to dedicated airguns is the best approach. In a narrower performance band a mid caliber (like .22) and an externally adjustable PCP could cover backyard friendly plinking/pesting to full power hunting - one airgun to cover a range of applications... I do exactly that with my Crown. Personally, I like to have a variety of airguns to shoot and would only consider a caliber swap if there was no other options. Cheers!

In my case I’m not keen on changing barrels as then I need to tune the gun again. I prefer to have different guns for different purposes.

I have two barrels for my Thomas air rifle. Both .177. One is 20” and meant for sub 12 fpe for Wrabf style bench rest., with jsb 8.44 The 24” barrel is for open or hv class. And I can switch jets and shoot over 30fpe with jsb monsters or beasts Actually thinking about selling the Thomas lately as I started shooting N50 competitions with .25 daystate .

These days I would not go with multiple barrels. I originally thought it was a great idea to have interchangeable calibers and still do, but I also understand that the airgun manufacturers want to keep customers coming with a new upgrade almost every year and the newer model is "the best there has ever been" and usually more expensive than the previous model, if i can buy the newer one I will lose interest in changing barrels on the previous model since "it isn't as good as the current one", or if I don't have the money to buy I will buy from a different airgun company. Of course, I know one doesn't have to participate in the drama, and I usually don't these days, but it dampens my desire to participate in airgun hype and just watch it from a distance until the dust settles.

Wellsaid Sir. The idea of multiple barrels for one machine sounds good just for imagination sake. Practically it is more frustrating. Rather rifle will be screwed having to undergo multiple changes on hammer and regulator, and even scope also. That's why people having got FX with two or three barrels have eventually ended up going for second rifle also. Regards

Interesting topic. Normally I prefer to set up a rifle, stock up on ammo. Job done. However, during the pandemic and after limited ammo was available or when available isn't the same quantity. Having the ability to change the barrel, for me has at times kept me shooting. Bad batch of pellets or slugs, try a different barrel kit. Not perfect but keeping me shooting is more important than cursing ammo. More money, frustration etc. My last 2 pellet, slug delivery have been atrocious compared to earlier stock. Having a selection of barrels, so far has meant i can still shoot. Testing etc. A barrel swap takes 5 minutes, full chrono testing, speeds etc probably 30 minutes to a hour. So basically I had my feet firmly in the ' set up the gun and leave it camp' ammo supplies have changed, no consistency. 20 tins of pellets or slugs are more expensive than a barrel kit. Im not a FX user, think RTI. One bonus i have found is some pellets i previously relegated to the cupboard shot well with a different barrel. Using old stock, some Turkish ammo is proving ok, often at a third of the cost of JSB, Zan etc. If i just want to go out and shoot, take something already set up with ammo i have. Unfortunately, some day that ammo will run out. Current consistency with ammo for me has become the larger factor. Apologies for the longish post, just trying to give my current position on the subject. In summary, would i experiment with different barrels etc if my ammo supply was consistent. No The current supply of ammo means my rifles etc have to morph around the ammo available 😢.

Gary I have noticed this this as well. Might but an upcoming topic because my pellets have been junk. I use to see the jsb 8.5 10.4 as a gold standard. WoW they been dirty , sharp edges , dented you name it like WTH?? Thanks you bring up a good point... Maybe a Next Video.

I am with a budget platform kral arms Bigmax X doesn't have a regulator but has changeable barrels currently running .25 and .30 cal mostly 30 couse enjoying heavier hitting projectiles however accuracy is much better with tiny calibers. And gone for 2nd barrel becouse of the price difference compared to new rifle and also the fact that I do not have much more space available living in small apartment with a family and dog probably will upgrade at ater point to FX or if there is better platform but for the moment this is doing a great job with external Huma regulator 300 yards easy or 100 meters is doing 2 inch group with 5 shots in .30 cal or slightly less on a good day and is 111 foot pounds with just harder hammer spring and no ports enlargment.
