People like Father Fish are pushing this style. But don't forget there are lots of humble Guys out there paddling their own canoe for years. Like Patty. When I lived in SF there was a tiny LFS doing this. There are a few KZitem vids of that store too. From a Guy running a monster canister filter. 😂

My aunt bred Neon tetras for a local fish store when I was single digits old. Always loved watching them swim around. Got my first tank when my son won gold fish at the fair. Rushed to wally world to buy a tank. A 10 gallon is all they had. Bought gravel and plastic plants. One fish died in a week. Second fish died a month later. I felt terrible about losing them. I knew I could do better. Started watching youtube videos to learn. 20 years later I have five dirted, planted tanks. Crazy to think how far I've come since then.

Interesting tanks! He didn't say it but I guess he doesn't change the water very often and I am not complaining! he's so right there are many ways of doing things and still be successful that's one of the things I like the most about our hobby. 😬

You would be correct on the water change question. I don’t have a schedule typically every 2-3 months but only because I feel it’s good for the plants not for high nitrates. 😁👍

Very interesting fish room. Been keeping fish since 1976. Myself. Noticed the wild varietie guppies. Looks like a lot of homemade lights and fixed tanks. Which is excellent because make most of my lights and have 4 tanks I built one is octagon and 2 old metal tanks I restored. Nice to see someone else doing the same stuff.

I just buy under cabinet led lights from Walmart and plastic gutter from Lowes cut it to length and glue the light in it. You can also paint the outside black, some I covered with wood grain contact paper.
“50$ huh” 😂 Mine was “it started with a 10 gallon now we have a fish room” She loves it though and loves to brag that we have a room dedicated to fish and loves to show it to people. I’m planning on setting up a native fish room in my garage. Thankfully she’s on bored and is excited to see it finished. Your tanks are beautiful!

6:45 A more definitive answer to how does he keep natural dirted filterless tanks would in part be the choice of sand not gravel as the substrate. That is the first step and a very important part of the process.

I have filters in my tanks but really they are just used for water circulation since I only have bio balls in them and don't change filter cartridges. I don't do water changes either, I just add distilled water into the tanks to replace evaporation. I keep my tanks heavily planted like yours. I refuse to do water changes and the fish and shrimp are just fine and breeding.
