@Anthony Nastasi. Hi Anthony, heres my story.... 2009 Sebring, 2.4L Engine.... Is the Thermostat Housing ''Cracked'' & ''Leaking''. Or are the ''Thermostat's Gaskets'' Bad? Now before you spend $50 online for the Housing, Check to see if the ''Leak, or ''Leaks'' are where the Thermostat's are located. I am going to take the 2-Old Thermostat's & see if I can make a Gasket. If so, the next time his car needs a Thermostat, He can buy a $5.00 one & make the Gasket.... Because lets face it, spending almost $50 for the 2 Thermostat's is crazy. The only way to find out if what you're doing will work, is set a day aside & mess with the Thermostat. I do have an older Caterpillar O-Ring Kit from work, I'll check to see if one of the O-Rings will fit..... My son has an 09 Sebring with the 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. I noticed 2 of the 5 or 6 joints on the ''Thermostat Housing'' were leaking. Since the ''Thermostats'' on this particular engine have a ''Gasket'' built onto the Thermostat, they are more expensive than a regular Thermostat, which is normally around $5 or so, the 2 ran $46 at AutoZone. Whoever replaced the original Thermostat Housing reused the original Thermostat's & somehow installed them in a way that caused the gasket to start leaking. Not just the one but ''Both'' Thermostats...... The guy behind me told me, ''Hey, the Housing is Cracked.'' I told him, ''Nope, the gaskets are blown.'' I've never seen this happen before but then again, I've never seen a Thermostat with those type of gasket's either..... I started to think that the blown gaskets were from ''Over Pressure'' but it dawned on me, Hey Monty, you're not dealing with a 345 Cat Excavator, with a Hydraulic Pressure Pump issue, it's just a 2009 Sebring! Get it together man. lol.....................

That's where I had to take a closer look. Sight unseen, my son was told at an auto parts store to order a Thermostat Housing. I took one look & could see that the 2-joings it was leaking coolant from that it may be something else. Once I read up on the location's of the Thermostat's, I figured I'd pull off the Housing & check those 2 area's out. I'm not sure why the 1 Thermostat Gasket developed a leak but the Thermostat that sits inside the engine, that was simple to see that the side of the Gasket blew-out.... Strange to see that happen....

@@anthonynastasi4098 Yep, I'll be picking up some material just in case it goes bad again. I mean if you need a housing & it's time to maybe change Thermostat's, it's a $100 ordeal... That sorta sucks & for the guy who doesn't know what's happening, I can see him being charged $300 - $400 for that fix.....

So I’m having this leak on my Sebring, do I just replace the housing or do I need a new gasket??
