@@cheeko_914 yea... from factory it has 240 HP, it weighs a FAT 4,600 lbs (that's my estimate), it sits on very soft air ride suspension, with a final drive ratio of 3.27:1 (and it's an open diff on top of that), and the engine is connected to the WORST AUTO TRANSMISSION EVER. Despite that, and this might be helped by aerodynamics, its 0-60 time is 9.4 seconds. Obviously, it's not as fast as a Lamborghini Gallardo, even with 400HP, but still really quick for a fat Semi Truck, I mean body on frame Luxury Sedan.

Back in 06 my former boss bought one of these. White/cinnamon top. Interior white/cinnamon trim and accents. No supercharger but, he told me I would never see another towncar like that one. What made his so unique was he had a center console with a console shifter and two luxury buckets style seats. He said its how he ordered it from the lincoln factory. So everytime I'm close to a last gen towncar I look to see if its a console or column shifter. He was right I still haven't seen another console shifter in that model. The reason for not updating the Panther platforms, increasing the engine power, improving the transmission, suspension, stability and speed is that Ford is no longer interested in this type of car and the only thing that made them continue to produce it 1998_2011 is to export it to the Gulf countries and profit from it to the maximum for a period of 13 years, and after its sales decreased, Ford stopped its production The proof is that Ford is not interested in Panther cars. Look at the engines of these cars from 1992 until 2011. The engine is the same 4.6 with a power of 210 _ 230 hp and a 4-speed transmission. It has not been changed by just minor updates.

@Shawn Kemp I'm not sure about the sunroof thing, but it wouldn't surprise me. My shorty 2001 Cartier has it, of course, and I use it a lot. The last significant technical updates came in 2003, involving some front structural and steering system mods, along with a styling update. So 2003-later cars are the best of the breed, really. I knew that when I bought my 2001 model, but chose not to worry about it, because it doesn't really matter much. My car was in fantastic shape at a smokin' good price, so I took it and I'm happy.
@Michael_Lorenson
4 жыл бұрын
@Shawn Kemp Problems? Hardly any. I've never come across the water problem. It's important to use factory oil filters, because they have an effective anti-drain back valve. That prevents timing chain guide failure, by maintaining some pressure in the hydraulic timing chain tensioner when the engine is off. Otherwise, the chain beats the crap out of the guides, until pressure comes up in the tensioner and tightens the chain properly. The plastic intake manifold will eventually crack and leak coolant. But the original one in my car is still OK after 20 years and 143k miles. Not a big deal to replace it. Like ANY old car, rubber components - hoses, bushings, belts, and air springs - harden, wear, and fail with age. I did all the suspension bushings in the whole car, and also the rubber air springs in the rear. Mine also needed shocks. I installed KYB Gas-Adjust, which are budget Bilsteins (high-pressure monotube design). For this application, they provide the same soft ride as the OEM shocks. If your particular car does not have a rear swaybar (like mine), I recommend you install one. Dorman makes a copy of the factory bar, and it bolts right in, no problem at all. Makes a BIG difference in handling and stability. I also replaced all the ignition coils and plugs. It was showing signs of imminent coil failure. Those individual coils only last about 125k miles. Again, this is true of all cars. Beware of cheap Chinese coils; get real Ford Motorcraft units (got mine on Amazon). And don't fall for gimmicky spark plugs, just use fresh OEM plugs. Finally, I replaced ALL the fluids - coolant, transmission, differential, power steering, and brake fluid. Mine runs and drives like a brand-new car. I've had zero problems in over two years of ownership. Everything works properly, and I mean everything. Few people go to the trouble to do this kind of maintenance, but it pays. Especially if you will keep it for a long time, which is my plan. I love it. Just understand that it's a classic American-style luxury car, not a German-style one. Its simpler, more practical, far cheaper to buy and run, and provides a more relaxed experience. If you're good with that, I absolutely recommend it.

Nitro?! Maybe you mean Nitrous Oxide, which is a completely different thing than Nitro Methane. What you suggest is not comparable to this package. And, it would cost a fortune to get the same reliable horsepower out this two-valve, 4.6L, SOHC engine, anyway. And it would never match the torque. You left out all the intake, engine management, Nitrous injection management, and exhaust stuff you'd have to do. Then there is the little problem of Nitrous being a bad idea, even on a good day. Engine go BOOM! Keep in mind, the owner dropped his car off at the shop and let someone else pull the wrenches. It was easy for everyone involved. It probably only took two or three days, at most. Heads and cams and Nitrous and all that other stuff represent the 'boy racer' solution, and doing it the hard way. The supercharger is the 'silver fox' solution. You might understand when you're older.
