I spent hours on the Internet looking for instruction on how to connect the pigtail for the ambient air temperature sensor on my 2014 Chevy impala, but found nothing. All of the videos only showed how to replace the sensor, not on how to repair the harness.
This short video shows you where the black and blue wires directly from the sensor connect to the circuit on the vehicle.
The vehicle was involved in a minor front end accident with the greatest impact near the driver side which is where the ambient temperature sensor is located. After that time, the ambient air temperature sensor would always read -40° and warned about ice. The AC still worked, but not sure if it was as cold as it should have been.
I originally purchased a sensor from O’Reillys for $14 (AX156 by Standard) thinking just that part was damaged as a result of the incident. When I disconnected the old one, the 2 wires (black and blue) from the sensor part came apart in my hand. The wires were severed higher up as a result of the accident.
I had to take off the entire bumper from the front end in order to find where these wires needed to be reconnected. Please see the other videos on KZitem on how to remove the front bumper.
I then soldered the wires back together and then re-taped the protective outer covering.
After the repair, the ambient temperature sensor immediately started working and read the correct temperature outside of 72°. It also felt like the air conditioning unit seemed to get colder then previous. Not sure if this is a result of this repair of the temperature gage and appropriate warmer temperature input into the computer vs AC Recharge that I did recently, possibly both.
Hope this helps!
