Nissan is doubling down on the crowded subcompact crossover segment with the 2017 Rogue Sport. We give it a full road test to see if this little ute is a big deal.

I don't seem to agree with what they said about the interior. When I first sat in the Qashqai (Here up in Canada) I was actually quite impressed with the form and function of the interior. They said Nissan used cheap materials but the interior seemed of the same quality of every other car in the fleet. Nissan interiors are some of my favourites; nothing ever raddles, you push around the seams and nothing cracks or creaks.

Thanks for the great review. Very accurate. I own this same vehicle, black with black interior but 2018.5 model. Nice vehicle but sorely underpowered. Nimble through a major city and easy to fit in parking spaces of all sorts. I put dealership installed Continental Extreme Contact DWS Ultra High Performance tires on and it improved the handling much better than the stock Bridgestone Ecopias, especially in the rain. Should have 175 HP and 2017, 2018 SL Premium package should have automatic dimming rear view mirror, electric passenger seat, Bose stereo, driver seat memory. These features are now added to the 2020 model. This is no cheap vehicle, fully loaded with some dealer added items like mud guards, rear bumper protector and door & hood film guards the vehicle is around $35K. I did have a Hyundai Tucson rental for 2 weeks and I liked the Rogue-sport much better overall. I now think I should have gotten a fully loaded CRV or larger Rogue for the money.

In Europe this model comes with much more equipment and better engines, like a 1.2 (115hp) or 1.6 turbo petrol (160hp) and a 1.5 (110hp) and 1.6 (130hp) turbodiesel. 10 seconds, for European standards, is an average time, not too bad.

I just want to know if its too anemic to overtake at highway speeds 🤔, seems comparable to a HRV with that amount of power. Or a Compass or Crosstrek with that 0-60 time? All bad, powertrains.

When will Nissan get with the program and provide decent power in their SUVs? This vehicle needs at least 200 hp. The Rogue needs at least 225.

Would never buy this over a Kia Niro.. For a similar price you get a longer warranty, nicer interior, power-folding mirrors, cooled seats, much better mpg thanks to hybrid drivetrain. And despite having a hybrid drivetrain you still get a DCT with actual gears over a terrible CVT so it'll feel much better and more responsive to drive. The Rogue Sport has nice styling and AWD but that's about it

I don't think they are "doubling down" on their mini CUV segment. I think the Rogue Sport replaces the Juke. The Juke just doesn't appeal to many. Me personally, I find it nauseating and find this an easy to look at replacement.
@syxepop

Actually, Nissan is TRIPLING DOWN on the segment. The Yucca (Juke) is still selling as is the smallest US Nissan you can buy (smaller than the cheaper Versa by a lot) and for its' turbocharged engine and soon they will be joined by another crossover sized in between Rogue Sport / Qashqai and Juke called the Kicks (w/a NA-1.6L), which will become Nissan's cheapest crossover, as it will sell below the cheapest Juke.

It looks really nice, but by the sound of things, it seems like a bad execution. Nissan quality and reliability are crap these days. After my bad experience with a new Versa, I have no desire to ever buy a Nissan again until they up their warranty to Hyundai/Kia levels.

In 2yrs and 56k miles, my 2012 Versa has peeling paint, CVT transmission problems, the catalytic converter heat shield broke and fell off TWICE due to bad design. The front suspension squeaked. The interior was full of squeaks and rattles, especially in cold weather. It was a POS. Obviously I wouldn't have bought it if I thought it was going to turn out to be a turd. My facts versus your opinion, dude.
