His technique is a little wonky on it. It’s a tricky jump and he generally dislikes edge takeoff jumps. Doesn’t love doing to loop or salchow either, though he certainly manages doing a quad salchow. He said at GPF this year that he couldn’t see himself ever trying a quad loop like Yuzu because he just doesn’t like that jump. With the axel, he tends to skid off the takeoff edge and that makes it harder to control. He’s definitely gotten better at it over the past two seasons. There’s a definite step up into the jump and that makes it much easier and technically clean

what you yuzuru stans don't understand is that, yuzuru probably won't be at the 2022 olympics, but guess who will? no matter how hard you insist that his reign is forever, there's already a new king in town. he would've beat yuzuru with this performance, that still does not take away yuzuru's victories, but you've got to admit, it makes it a lot harder to say he's the best of all time

Hanyu is competing at the 2022 Olympics. And as much as I love Nathan there's no guarentee that Nathan would have won if Hanyu skated at worlds given that Hanyu best short score, free score and total score are all higher than Nathan's bests. Hanyu at his best beats Nathan at his best any day

Chen is superior to Hanyu technically, but he has much to improve artistry, a little reminder that Nathan Chen is only 19 year old, he will have a lot of time to improve and surpass Hanyu.
@L1623VP

Thank you, Tanith White, for saying at 7:04 exactly what I've said before on another thread, but that Hanyu's Pooh-bots can't understand. Had Nathan skated well in the SP in Peyongchang, he would have beaten Hanyu and won the gold. His total score here is 4 points higher than Hanyu's at the Olympics. Chen was a real threat to Hanyu going into the Olympics and was the front runner for gold until he let his nerves get to him in the SP. Hanyu, although he deserved to win, benefited immensely from that fluke. Chen then came back to beat Hanyu in the LP by 18 technical points. That's HUGE. Even after PCS was added, Nathan still won the LP over Hanyu by nearly 9 points.
@sonisisuper
6 жыл бұрын
But he lost. So who cares? What could have happened is irrelevant. Yuzuru himself was injured at the Olympics and normally does a more difficult free program. But the only thing that matters is what you bring on the day. And Nathan's performance was not even simply a fluke -- the counter to the high reward of the many quads is high risk, especially when nerves are added to the mix. Nevertheless, I really hope Nathan can win gold in 2022, but I know that 4 years is a long time and a lot will change.
@L1623VP

sonissuper: Calm down, Pooh-bot! It's just some basic sports analysis, as Tanith White properly observed. Your irrational response just proved my point in my initial comment. It's just analysis, sweetie. I said nothing negative about Hanyu or that he didn't deserve to win. He did win on a fluke and Nathan would easily have won with the performance he laid down here. That's a numerical FACT. If you can't see that, then you don't understand math. Just take some deep breaths and calm down.

lcowles I like Yuzuru but I can admit that he won those Olympic titles due to his biggest rivals meltdowns but that doesn't make his achievements less impressive. Mental strength is very important in sports like figure skating. It's very clear that Nathan and Patrick lacks strong mental strength and it's their own fault.

For anyone still believing that Chen would have easily beaten Hanyu had he performed this at the Olympics, be honest at least and compare clean Hanyu vs clean Chen scores, not unclean Hanyu vs clean Chen. Hanyu lost about 10 points from his quad toe mistake and about 2 from his triple lutz mistake. Give him an extra 12 points and he's on 218 for the free and about 329 in total. Chen still would need to make up 8 points from his 321. And you're comparing a skater at the peak of his powers to a skater who was severely injured a few months back and had been practising quads for a week. The fact that we can put them in the same discussion says a lot about Hanyu's tenacity. Just appreciate both their skating skills for what they are. They're obviously different skaters; Hanyu's edge jumps trump Nathan's toe jumps and vice versa (but there are more toe quads than edge quads atm), whereas Hanyu's artistry overall wins out.
@Tigerkem

You're sounding extremely salty. Comments like these are so unnecessary. The what if scenario doesn't matter, injuries and choking are part of the sport. Just be happy that Hanyu won the Olympics and Nathan won worlds.

@@skylarjewel4041 nope. Yuzuru with 4 quads and clean beats Nathan with 4 quads and clean. Yuzuru with 4 quads and clean probably loses to Nathan with 5 quads and clean. If Nathan puts his 4S into his program and lands it and the other quads well, then he'll win almost surely. You need to keep in mind that Nathan is never getting his nationals PCS internationally, and international judges aren't so keen on giving +5 GOEs on anything.

Nathan deserves the medal, for sure.. Very clean. Perfect jumps. The thing with Yuzuru is- when he skates, you just hold your breath... The music and the performance, you remember the movements, the music, it´s just a piece of art.. I am not into figure skating, not in the least, yet I watched him.. Over and over. And this piece, no matter how perfect, just doesn´t draw me in. Yuzuru is a fighter and well aware of his own shortcomings, hope the ankle issue won´t hold him back to try and improve. I don´t like his SP so much, but the current FS programme is so beautiful, I wish I could see it performed at 100 percent.. Just to see it happen. For Yuzuru and the beauty of it.
