Gordon Murray (arguably the greatest designer in racing history) has pointed out that all of the most revolutionary ideas he came up with were based on very basic physics principles, such as lowering the centre of mass, using pit stops to run the car lighter than the other cars, lowering the nose of the car to control the stagnation point, and leaning the driver back - all very simple physics, yet effective enough to design the most dominant cars ever

@The_Curious_Cat
5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but can also be interpreted that Mercedes wasn´t going to push that first update as soon as the second week of testing. Like he said, the car we see there (the one from the first week), was going to be for winter testing and the version we saw at the second week was only going to appear in Australia. But on the other hand maybe they pushed it because the performance (probably with tires) wasn´t as expected? Maybe they wanted to make sure the package worked? Maybe they pushed it as a way to show strength? Or maybe the pieces were ready sooner and they decided to used them already. So many options. One thing is for sure, it wasn´t a panic move after the first week (like many videos implied), it was already planned.

@@AshishKumar-bm2ou It's testing, so we don't really know which engine modes they used what fuel loads. downforce levels hybrid mappings etc etc. All these things impact straight line speed. Usually the merc engine has boosted their car to the top terms of straight line speed. And the engines have not changed in regulations. I also think Ferrari is better at this point. But that's mostly based on how forgiving and planted it looked on track. Very impressive! So again it looks like the Ferrari will be the easier car in terms of set-up and tyre management. Which means we could see a similar start as last year.

@@AshishKumar-bm2ou While not typical Mercedes i don't believe Bottas has the talent to escape his wingmen role. However i do believe he will be better and closer this year(like the beginning of last year). So he does become a very useful and consistent asset to the team. Leclerc is young ambitious and crazy talented. He will certainly challenge Vettel. Which makes me predict that ferrari may take the constructor's title while Hamilton remains the F1 champ. Redbul remaining that joker that keeps interfering:D. I think you mean merc is the only car without the high rake. Merc is the only car that sits relatively flat on the road.
