Thank you for the review. I have a ‘22 power boost model on order so it is good to hear your perspective. I have a ‘19 F150 currently and wife has ‘20 Escape Hybrid so I am familiar with most of the features you are discussing and pretty much agree with everything you say. Escape Hybrid would benefit from a larger battery, also. My F150 has lane keep assist but not centering but the Escape has centering; it is a really nice feature. I find that if my adaptive cruise is following another vehicle, it slows just fine as the vehicle in front slows, even to a stop. When it really requires braking assistance is when it moving at freeway speed, not following, and comes up on slowed/stopped traffic as it doesn't have the ability to react quick enough when it finally detects the slowed/stopped vehicle in front of it.

That’s good to know. I’ve got a ‘22 XLT PowerBoost on order, so I’m glad to hear it’s holding up so far! My wife has a 2019 Ford Escape Titanium and it’s adaptive cruise control does exactly the same thing. Freaks me out every time I drive it!!

Yup, no major quality issues so far -- once we figure out the issue of the audio dropping out completely. As long as it's an easy fix, and we don't need to take it in to the dealer, we'll be happy.

Note: When we say we wish they would offer a "7700lb option," we mean GVWR -- not rear axle rating. Obviously you'd have to get a Super Duty if you want a 7700lb rear axle rating. So all we mean is we'd like it if Ford would give you the option of a higher GVWR than what it currently is (approx 7450lb). In the late 90s, you could get an F-150 with an up-sized GVWR (and 7-lug axles, etc) so you could tow bigger trailers and carry heavier loads. Now that everyone wants to tow a 30-foot 5th wheel camper with their F-150, Ford should step up and offer a stronger truck..... without just saying "sorry, get a Super Duty."

The hybrid power boost is way more practical than any electric vehicle ever will be
@ArmyProperty

Couldn't agree more. EV's are fine if you're talking about a sedan, but an electric pickup truck is basically useless for long highway trips, or towing. Mostly because of aerodynamics. The only thing an electric pickup truck is good for, is commuting to the office and going to Home Depot on the weekend. Or maybe a very short trip to the boat ramp.

I’ve really liked my pb , I had some issues with the transmission shifting early on . After 3 trips to the dealership they resolved the problem which was from about 2500 to around 7000 miles . After the issue was resolved my mileage increased to around 21 mpg . I’m at 13000 miles now , I recently had a 2.5 “ leveling kit installed with 33” tires and lost approximately 2 mpg . So far no other issues, the power of this truck is unbelievable .

@royweatherford64

@@madclone84 there was some part they said was bad which I think was unrelated because it was saying onboard power issues but after they did fixed this issue the transmission hasn’t given me a problem. Personally I think it was an update. I haven’t had a single issue until last week when the front windows stopped working like they should. Which started about the same time I received a recall notice for something completely unrelated. I’m at almost 19,000 miles which is approximately 12,000 without an issue. I’m guessing it’s another update issue.

Nice video. I recommend rotating your tires every 5000 miles..Also, don't go beyond the recommended 3 psi from the factory on the driver door label. I'm in the northeast. I've had 2 already. Great vehicle. Enjoy.
@ArmyProperty
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. We tend to run our tire pressure on the high side. On the 3500 we go 70-80psi all around, because of the loads we're hauling. E-range tires can handle that type of pressure. On the F-150 we keep it around 40psi. And yes you need to rotate tires all the time on these things!!!

Great video with good comments. I agree that the F150 design seem to have a good combination of all the things we want in a pickup. My 2022 will be here next month. Still not sure how I will use the driving "aids ". With all the problems reported with "electronics" problems of sync4, screen, radio volume, APIM etc. Seen by some, not clear how I would ever fully trust the driving aids. Maybe I am too old school and will just drive myself. Again, good (useful) comments on all the good and not so good of the truck. Much appreciated

We do both. We let the "self-driving" systems do their thing, but we also keep our hands on the wheel, in order to take over if needed. The Ford system is not as good as Tesla's, but definitely a great start.

My 2018 Mustang GT has adaptive cruise, and you can adjust the follow/braking distance for it in the settings; I saw a similar setting when I test drove a 21 F150 - see if you can find that and change it so it won't get so close before braking.

Sure. It’s just annoying. With just a little more investment it could’ve been twice as useful. Instead it’s almost an underachiever. They spent all that money putting in a hybrid system and didn’t even bother putting in a decent-size battery. Oh well…

You can order the F150 with HDPP (heavy duty payload package). It's availability is limited in terms of trim and options. Most likely, the first limiting factor on your truck's GVWR is the wheels (not the tires, the 'rims'), not the rear axle rating. HDPP trucks come with beefier suspensions, 1mm thicker frame, larger rear axle components, and upgraded wheels and tires.
@ArmyProperty
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that's good to know. Didn't realize Ford would give you the option of a thicker frame. Sounds like a nightmare in terms of managing P/N's and configurations on the assembly line. But we'll check into it.... next time around. We've got "Max Tow" and I'd thought it offered the strongest suspension & biggest towing / payload numbers that you could get.

We got the optional towing mirrors. Unfortunately on the XLT, they're manual folding & telescoping. So, each time you park in a crowded parking lot you need to fold them by hand, so they don't get taken out by some other sloppy driver. They're gigantic and very easy to hit. But they're a huge improvement over the stock mirrors.

So I actually test drove a Xlt power boost with the adaptive cruise control and I have to disagree with the harshness of the slow down when you get closer to another vehicle. You can set the follow distance to what you deem comfortable and you likely have yours set really close? Press the adaptive cruise control button at the top right of the left buttons, you got 4 different follow modes :)
@ArmyProperty

Yeah we typically set it to the max following distance..... and it still "falls asleep at the switch" and then suddenly "wakes up" and slams on the brakes at the last minute. Even if there was an Audible tone, how loud would it have to be if you're listening to music. Most people want less tones/beeps from system. Also, are you confusing lane centering and lane assist with Bluecruise/self driving? It's job is to assist as long as your hands are on steering. People arent suppose to be taking hands off the steering. Bluecruise is the self driving tech.
