Ford as an automaker definitely has their highs and lows, but credit where credit is due - the hybrid implementation is actually really clever and well-done here. Thoroughly thought out, well-executed (for the most part), and genuinely useful - THAT’S what I call innovation. With any luck, the next F150 hybrid will use a version of the Explorer's hybrid system. That's really the one problem with this: it's more truck than many people will really want when looking for a work truck despite the usefulness. If they were to offer the 7.2kW generator with a base 3.3L, 315hp hybrid, though, that would be the perfect truck. Something you could opt for on XL trucks for $2000 instead of $5000.

Rumours are that Ford's working on a Plug-In Hybrid version of the Ranger. Not set for anytime soon, but damn would I love one. Plug-In Hybrids are really cool. You get the benefits of both all-electric for 0 emmissions, and a gas engine for long range. Downside is that the battery pack in a PHEV isn't as big as a dedicated EV, but if the battery drains, the vehicle operates in Full Hybrid mode instead of PHEV mode.

Lol yep, that sounds like the 10R80 transmission. I had it in my 2018 F150 and have it currently in my 2018 Mustang GT. It's a real...interesting transmission, especially when cold. Once it's got heat in it, it's fantastic and really bangs the shifts out.

Agree! I have a 2020 F150 3.5 crew long bed XLT and yep, when cold it’s like a kidney pinch every now and then but once warm she’s a beaut Clark! Lol I like that 3.5 slot tho. Ford bought my 18 f150 3.5 back as a lemon, I think 18 was a bad year for them lol I still like my 19 f250 cre w diesel power train better, that 6 spd TorqShift is just all around good. I hope if I replace it with a 22 f250 the 10 spd isn’t as quirky as my 20 f150’s 10 spd.

@@natehawkins2910 Ha ya. I should have mentioned that I’m actually on my SECOND trans in my 2018 Mustang GT. First one grenaded while out on a cruise due to pump failure. Ford rebuilt it and then it overheated again out on a cruise and I had to limp it back. It then sat with Ford for 6 weeks while they fought for a brand new black box transmission which they finally received and the car has been great ever since. It was unfortunately down for most of last summer so it will be great to hopefully get a full season in with it. I’m the second owner and bought it just over a year ago with 4800 miles on it. My 2013 3.5 Ecoboost also runs pretty sluggish and shifts hard when it's cold. Seems like it doesn't smooth out until the engine reaches that normal operating temp. I was hoping Ford would have figured that out by now. But, after eight years and 120 something miles, that's the only complaint I have. Not too bad. The Ecoboost platform has proven to be extremely reliable. I'm never going back to a V8. Thanks for a helpful review.

The range is insane with this new F150, however, if I were to go F150, I'd still take the V8. The EcoBoost exhaust note sounds so terrible which is honestly the ONLY reason why I'd choose the V8. I can't wrap my head around the exhaust noises that come from these ecoboost motors.
@CJColvin

I totally agree brother. I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 137,000 miles on it and still going strong and man its a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla ATAK exhaust on it.
@CajunRulez
3 жыл бұрын
121K on my 2013 Ecoboost and it pulls harder and runs smoother than ever. Never had an issue. It'll blow the doors off the 5.0. I could care less what it sounds like, when I bury the pedal it gets it done like no V8 I've ever owned before. 89 octane 5 Star custom tuned(performance/tow), and it'll burn a line in 2nd gear. With the tune even the current 5.0 doesn't stand a chance.
@WatchMeBURNFuel
3 жыл бұрын
@@CajunRulez Your comment is irrelevant. Anything can be made fast with money. If I wanted a fast ford f150, I'd 100% still go with the Coyote. The 5.0 will always have way more potential than an ecoboost. A stock motor coyote will hold 700whp+ reliably, literally beating on it all day long. The 3.5 would eventually blow to smithereens without upgraded engine internals at a power level like that. I don't see 3.5's running 9's. I see a lot of 5.0's running 9's though. Is it cheaper to tune the pcm/ecm to get 80-100 hp than it is to get 80-100 hp out of the 5.0? Sure. But after that point, for higher hp levels, it starts to cost more and more to mod the 3.5 than the 5.0. Again, a bunch more 900-1000+ Hp 5.0's running around than 600 hp 3.5's (I don't know if there are even any 700+ 3.5 f150s out there at all)

I was suprised, to see the gear shifter as a stock shifter.

I agree with you on the column shifter. Trucks and big SUVS it makes sense and I'm not a fan of push button, or rocker type shifters at all. Knobs are OK, you still get that tactile feedback. SN: Why are they still putting chrome bumpers on trucks. Very dated look IMO.

If you explain where the setting is to change to screen to a dark color, I would be so appreciative. I have spent close to an hour and cannot find it. Thanks

What an absolutely genius idea to put a bunch of electrical outlets in the bottom of the bed. People never haul anything wet in the bed of the truck 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Some serious questions. 1. Has the issue with trailer lights draining the battery been fixed? 2. Have the transmission shifting issues been fixed? 3. Has the death wobble been fixed? 4. Is the engine in this truck also equipped with a belt driven oil pump? 5. What is the electrical system warranty on this truck? That is a lot of electronics in a vehicle. This truck must have a mile of wire. It screams future electrical issues.

Wow, you should work for Ford since you're obviously smarter than all their engineers.

@@CajunRulez I really should... But they would laugh at the idea of a designing a basic reliable, and affordable truck for the average working man.

Have to be amused that fastest F150 sans Raptor is actually the hybrid variant.

Well you could get a RAM or a GM twin with that turd of an 8 speed and you won't shift at all.

They still don’t have paddle shifters for manual modes? I got two Ford vehicles and the toggle switch on the shifter I find annoying.

This hybrid F-150 looks like it would be super useful. I would really love to see this style hybrid system employed in the new maverick trucks in conjunction with the Eco-blue diesel engine.

Thats one nice F150 brother and the power boost engine, (like the EcoBoost V6 combined with an electric motor) will make this truck move like a freight train and to me a hybrid is wayyyyyyy better than a the stupid full electric.

The problem is if the hybrid is broken, the car cannot be used, unfortunately, until the battery for the hybrid is repaired and no one can fix it
