I’m a Vol fan. I’m ‘Old School’ and have always been against running up the score. Here are some caveats, though: 1) Eli’s dumb-a** ran his mouth, so I would’ve scored that TD to make it 59, just to make a point to him to keep his mouth shut; 2) In this era where ‘style points’ apparently matter, that changes the game from how it used to be, so I guess one has to adapt accordingly; 3) If there ever comes a day when Missouri has the ability to retaliate against us and tack on late TDs, I’ll accept it and won’t say a word, because we “started it.” All that being said, I LOVE MY VOLS. I love this coach and these players. What a thrill of a season. I can’t wait to make the trip down to Columbia, SC this weekend 🏈

In college football, you better let your backup QB run your offense because you are one injury away at all times if your QB goes down. Heupel gave Milton the reigns for two series and the announcers are crying. All Milton did was run the playback and execute at a high level. Oh, and he was doing it with backups as well. So, let's not jump on the Vols for trying to get reps for the backups. GBO.

Take a knee while the clock is running? No. It's the offense's job to score. It's the defense's job to stop them. Steve Spurrier said the same thing. It's a 60 minute game. Not a 58 minute game no matter the score

CBS doesn't deserve to have another TN game. Bad sportsmanship would be running down the clock. The victory formation is only intended to be used to seal the game for your team when it would be unadvisable to run normal plays, otherwise you play the game till the final whistle regardless of the score.

What a STUPID rule for delay of game with Defensive subbing. Just let the Defense sub all 11 players one after another and waste the time. STUPID rule. They should at least stop the clock at 5 seconds and only give the Offense 5 seconds to run a play. They need to fix that immediately. 1:20:14

In 98’ teams weren’t happy that Tennessee kept running the score up on them right to the last minute (Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina). But Coach Fulmer came out and said this is it the way I want to play the game but in order to be ranked higher in the BCS this is a game we’ve got to play.

@@boblangford5514 You would be incorrect my friend. In 1998 Tennessee ran the score up on Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina. Hell they did it yesterday (Nov 12, 2022) against Missouri (66-24) so that they would look good in the eyes of the panel to be picked in the playoffs.
@boblangford5514

@@jamielancaster01 In 1998, against South Carolina, Tennessee won 49-14, and scored their last touchdown with over 9 minutes left in the game. They scored that touchdown with their backups in, and after that drive, they didn’t throw the ball again the entire game, not once. On their final possession, they took a knee. Tennessee beat Kentucky in 1998 with a score of 59-21. Tennessee had 52 points through 3 quarters, so they only scored once in the 4th, and they did so, once again, with their backups in the game. Tennessee beat Vanderbilt 41-0 in 1998. UT’s final score was in the 4th quarter with 6 minutes left. On their final possession, with over 3 minutes left, they did not throw the ball, they just ran it and let the time run out. And they had the backups in the game. So in all 3 of those games, Tennessee played very pedestrian on their final drives. They certainly didn’t throw a bomb for 50 yards within the final 2 minutes like Heupel did against Missouri this weekend. In ‘98, they did nothing even close to that. (For the record, I have no problem with what Heupel did. Did he run up the score? Yes, but I don’t have a problem with coaches having their players play hard for 60 minutes. It’s good experience for the backups). Please explain to me what you believe running up the score means. If your definition is just “scoring a lot of points,” then we are talking about 2 different things. I consider a coach to be running up the score when he has his team scoring a TD or field goal with very little time left in the game when he could just have them take a knee to end the game. So please, what is your definition of running up the score?

That substitution DOG penalty at around 1:20:25 was absolute horse crap, if you ask me. There was no way for UT to snap before the clock expired. I understand the rules are if offense subs then defense gets to sub, but you shouldn't be forced to accept a penalty for the defense moving slowly. That's garbage.
