Just have to give Honda props for styling a hybrid normally instead of making it look like they asked a five year old with a box of crayons and a drug problem to draw what they think a race car looks like. Which is basically how Toyota does it.

Too bad they discontinued it. Fun fact: Insight is actually the very first hybrid to hit the market, most people believe its the Prius, but its not. End of an era. But the upcoming Civic Hybrid is going to be the one to catch up with the Prius and all other hybrids. Insight just failed to have a good name for itself. To be honest Insight was just the wrong word to use to name a car for the future. Should of been more catchy like the Duo.

I had my eye on the insight for the last few months. Looking for a quality used EX model. The prices on the used models are nearly the same as dealer MSRP. I do not like buying new cars. However, since the price gap was minimal, I bought a 2022 Cosmic Blue Insight EX the same day this was published and I LOVE it! GoldPony's review is accurate. One of the things I like most is the tight steering. He referred to it as heavy. It brought a higher level of excitement back to driving for me with a smooth and steady feel through bends and corners. I also love the SPORT mode. It puts the ZIP in zipper...

@@lilbean4606 So I have been out and about and I am LOVING the '22 Insight EX. There are a few areas where my expectations were not met, but that is more because of my former car and not the new car. I came out of a 2005 Accord EX-L and it had all of the little extras. Sunglass holder, electric seats, extra storage, cup holders galore, and a premium sound system. I did not care to spend the extra 5K to get those features in the Touring trim level. Aside from my expectations, the Insight has been absolutely GREAT! There are too many features list. my fav's are the backup camera and side traffic sensors, blind spot sensors, the tight steering, SPORT mode, and the overall look. I finally had to gas in it yesterday after 410 miles. I still had 1/4 tank left and put 7+ gallons of gas in it. Approx 53-54mpg of mixed driving. On my way home last evening I was trying to get ahead of a very strong T-Storm. I had 30-40 mph tailwind, doing 65mph on a rolly polly road and I was able to get 65mpg! That is INCREDIBLE! I don't get that on my MC. All in all, I am very happy with the purchase.
@Ravenlight_303
3 жыл бұрын
@@l_ric one of my reasons is in line with @Manny Brum's comment. New cars are nice but I don't like paying that premium price for the new car smell and having the privilege of being the first owner. My biggest reason is, before 2021, I could buy more car when buying used than buying new. My last car was '05 Accord EX-L. I purchased it in early '09 and it was top of a line trim model. The '09 EX-L Accord was 10k more. I didn't see the value in spending an extra 10k to get a car with less miles nor did I see value in spending an extra 5k on the regular EX to get a newer model without all of the features the EX-L had. Yes, I could have afforded it, but it's not what I wanted to spend my money on. I was able to get a premium car at a great price that I paid off in 3 years and not 5 and I had the money for other things. Now, 2021 is totally upside-down at the moment. If you look at Carvana or Car Guru's, the 2019 and 2020 Insight EX's are the same price as the 2022 models. Crazy. When the value of the 2019-2020 used cars drop, the people who purchased these cars this year via long-term car loans will most likely be paying far more on the car than it is worth. Kinda like the housing bubble of 2008-09.

I drove a 2020 Honda Insight last year and fell in love with it. I talked to the Honda dealers in TN for a while. They said most of their older buyers steer clear from anything with the name hybrid in the name. New tech, extra battery packs, and electric motors are not as wildly adopted depending on age and location. The cool thing about the insight is the electric motor design. The electric motor stays powered on with your AC when the start stop system turns off. So your AC or Heat is always running. The engine combo is surprisingly peppy. The hybrid battery comes with an 8 year 100k mile warranty and the replacement battery is like $220 dollars. Less than I would have thought.

Got this car a week ago. I love everything about it. I was initially going to go with the Corolla Hybrid, but we've been waiting since April to have it delivered to the dealership. We went to the Honda dealership across from the Toyota on a whim, and we luckily got the last Insight for the next two months. No mark ups or anything either. I feel like I need to compare this to the Corolla Hybrid: - the Insight's interior is much more premium-looking. The infotainment and dash could get a little confusing at first, but give yourself like maybe 5-10 minutes to get familiar and you'll be comfortable. - I admit that the Corolla Hybrid still has better MPG. I drive mostly highway, and I understand that because of this, I'm not reaping the benefits of a hybrid. After one week and ~200 miles, I've gotten 47 MPG, which is alright. - there is so much more tech loaded in the Insight than in the Corolla Hybrid. I find the multiple views on the rear-camera to be very convenient. The Blind Spot monitor is also a standard across the two trim levels that the Insight comes in. It has two front USB ports. There is a LOT of room in the cupholder, which I greatly appreciate. I would also argue that the infotainment screen is smoother and looks nicer. - the exterior is amazing. We got it in the platinum white pearl color, which looks very nice. I love how this car doesn't scream out "hybrid"; it looks like a Civic and an Accord Hybrid mashed together which is something I really love. The Corolla Hybrid does this job as well, since it doesn't change any looks from the gas Corolla. I strongly prefer how the Insight looks from back to front. The only issue I really have with the Insight is that the sound does sound a little flat even after configuring it in the settings. This really isn't a problem to me since a car like the Insight is mainly supposed to just take you from point A to point B. Music isn't really my thing either. I think Honda nailed the design of the Insight perfectly. What I wanted in a car was something that saves a lot of money on gas, looks sporty but also subtle, and is loaded with tech and safety features. This is also my first hybrid, let alone first brand-new car after two hand-me-downs. Compared to other competitors in the same budget, this is the car to beat.

I own a Ford Fusion Hybrid. I love it....but if you do mainly highway driving....or on hilly routes...a standard gas engine probably would be a better choice. Hybrids love city driving and cruising at 40 or 50ish MPH. (If you keep the speed constant, it will stay in electric mode.) Higher speed highway driving ....and the gas engine runs almost constantly...at least in my car. It will maintain desired speed, but acceleration is not optimum and the mpg drops significantly. Hey Gold Pony You mentioned the EPA #’s for fuel economy. What’d you get on your drive time? Heard a lot of mixed reviews of real world fuel eco from earlier years of this gen of the Insight. Curious how the 2022 EX did for you in your test. Thanks!!

Not as good as the new gen civic, but definitely better than 10th gen civic, but sadly it still sells poorly, the sales numbers are decreasing each year, especially now with the new civic coming out. I am surprised they didn’t refresh insight to give it wireless carplay and wireless charger.

@@TheMrgoodmanners I agree, Corolla (Elantra gas 175hp) I owned since 2015) are not fun cars to drive. I mostly do city, and not every day. Just traded our 2022 Insight because of several issues. First, the seats are bad. Like, really bad. Shaped weirdly, and you're sitting on the floor if you're the passenger. They seem to roll your hips and tailbone forward and up, making you slouch whether you want to or not.Second, the hood, at speeds over 60, starts to flutter and vibrate. Yes, it was shut tight, but it's aluminum, and evidently it's pretty thin, and it just vibrates and is very distracting. Third, MPG rockets downhill as you push the car at higher speeds. We averaged about 35 at any speed over 70. Around the city it's great, but as a highway car, you can beat the MPG from this rig with a VW Jetta. Accelerating will engage the gasoline engine; accelerating hard will make it whir and whine and generally protest, making sounds that don't sound very good. It has a great ride, it handles very well, and it's screwed together tight. But the comfort of the seats is a deal breaker, unless you like the Honda style of seat.

I'm worried about the drive train being CVT. Toyota's ECVT is way more reliable. Lets hope Honda makes a car with an planetary gear set instead of a belt driven transmission.

Is it worth getting over a regular civic? I will be driving 5 days a week with each day trip 135 miles on 95% highway driving doing 80mph on cruise. Given that 95% will be highway miles, does this hybrid offer better gas mileage than a regular ICE civic? I've read and heard that hybrids thrive in stop and go for optimal gas mileage but when you're hammering 80 miles on cruise for 67 miles each way, I don't know if the hybrid has an advantage for gas mileage. Just asking in advance. Thanks.
