True, real engineers with all pro an cons. Shout out to the NA Toyota crew for taking the time to talk about their areas of expertise on camera. To hear the powertrain engineer refer to the V6 twin turbo in "its Lexus application" made me take a step back from the easy "V8 to V6 equals downgrade" FUD, and made me realize that they hadn't just slapped some rando V6 under the hood, and that they were working towards clear performance, longevity, and driver experience goals. And to see Jack so excited about the new Tundra's drive, makes me look forward to any other Tundra coverage on the way from SG.

@theawesomeguy9999

@@mutiracialbeatdownPB That wouldn't surprise me at all actually. That's the allure/downfall of luxury vehicles. You often get the cutting edge of an auto group's tech, but without all the refinement and reliability of an older product. Hence all the changes and tweaks they made to the powertrain for the new Tundra for reliability and NVH. Manufacturers do this all the time, Lincoln was the first to get the new DOHC v6 engines from Ford and there were issues. But it was the first to get 30mpg and 300hp in one package. Since then they've become much more common in normal Fords and more reliable, simply because they had more time and data to improve the tech but it's no longer the latest and greatest

HA! “Longevity” is their goal right? Yet they threw a tiny motor in a truck, making it work hard all the time. They threw a turbo or two on… that’s gonna be something that fails. Toyota V8s run forever. So do their V6s. NA… I can only imagine what their reputation would be if their cars always came with shitty engines like this. 2 V6 options…. I'm not personally a fan of the "aggressive" front end of Toyota's newer truck designs, but I know allot of folks like that jazz. I also don't get the making everything red or orange that all these companies do with their off-road versions, but maybe I'm just no fun. That being said, if the fuel mileage is improved and they eventually find a way to tuck that massive tablet into the dashboard better, this thing should last for another 15 years.

Yes! The “throw a tablet into the dash” and do a “superglue it to the dash” look to it, is so ugly! Literally the worst design. Tesla started it, and I personally can’t stand the look of it in a Tesla. Looks like a 5 year old put it together

I'm not holding my breath for that twin-turbo V6 to last 15 years of abuse like the older V8s would.

I'll probably never have a full size truck, but I watch this review because Mark and Jack are that damn good.

I wish they kept the V8, other than that it looks solid.

Old 5.7 was OK to keep up with last gen of Ford 5.0 ( 5 years ago) but is beyond outclassed by Ford 2.7 TT 3.5 TT and even the 5.0. And its not even getting into aluminum body...Toyota needed more than this.

The 5.7 inhaled gas like nobody's business. A solid platform and with the supercharger it was good at towing a loaded 35ft trailer, @9 Mpg it was a trade off. Still should of at least been an option.

The lack of 4WD Auto is a big miss, especially for an all new effort. The big 3 understand this.

I hope they can get this drivetrain into more vehicles. Would love this in something between the Highlander and Sequoia. Great review as always.

I wish they talked about fuel economy. This truck looks really promising but if it doesn't achieve class-leading fuel economy it seems pretty pointless to add the complication of a hybrid system.

Wife already gave the greenlight for a trd pro. With the news of it coming in around 65k, most likely will wait till the end of 2022 in hope the price isn't inflated(lol). Probably will lease as a hedge against reliability concerns..

Pick up truck prices are beyond stupid through the entire segment.
