Top spec model reviewed again, which most won't be able to afford. People need to understand that the base model will disappoint, after getting excited over the look of this one. However, not having a go at the channel, as I know they can only review the car they're given. Great review and always enjoy them whenever I watch one. Well presented, so thumbs up! Toyota are taking the P with us now. They think their name will still make you choose to get ripped off. Their Cross version has gone up around 2k since its launch 2 years ago. 2k! I know they'll say it's because of certain increases, etc, but who else feels like car manufacturers are treating us like energy companies do? Plus, if you go with a PCP, you'll have 4.9% APR to add on currently, so say hello to paying even more! It's 5.9% for the Cross version. I don't know anyone who can buy this outright. You're not rich? No worries, we'll just make sure you pay more! Rant over. Sorry. I really do like this channels videos though. Quality.

A sport civic in the euro zone costs 58'900 euros. A base hybrid civic will come for 32'000. A Toyota Supra is 52'800. A midsize BMW 3 series will come for 55'500 without options (that tend to be quite long and pricey). So yes, the price is completely aligned in the actual price lineup. After 1 year of owning Yaris we still love it. On 17-inch wheels it corners very well, has features like HUD, which is fantastic. More and more of them are driving around, seems to get some popularity. I can think of just 2 pains in neck: heated steering wheel heats too much, to the degree it burns. And too small battery: if you let it stand for 2 weeks during the winter, you are not going to start it up. Given there's another big battery for the hybrid system, this does not make any sense at all.

For transporting stuff in a small car you usually don't carry 3-4 passengers and your luggage at the same time. You have maybe 1 passenger, and then you can use all of the back seat space. I'm glad you brought up the Honda Jazz as a comparison, because it seems like the better choice. Admittedly I have one, and I bought a 1 year old top spec one for 5.5k less than this Yaris, yet the Jazz comes with a number of features and comforts (like heated seats, parking sensors, heated steering wheel etc) that this more expensive Yaris lacks. The economy for the Yaris does look fantastic though. As a comparison to what I've experienced in my Jazz over the last 2000 miles, I've averaged ~53 on the motorway, and 62.3 overall. It can get 80mpg around town, but only when there's next to no traffic and you have longer stretches of no traffic lights.

A tip. While this is a good review, and a great little car, as always there’s a bit missing. Night-driving. I was shocked to sit in a brand new (then, 2015) super-mini, my first drive happened to be at night, and I switched it on…nothing…ok, I thought, I will try the lights…still nothing. Yes, the front instrument cluster came on, but remember at night, with lights on, that dims a lot. What I wanted, was to find the exterior light switch position. Completely dark, no idea. Having found it and used it with the interior light on, I then needed the windscreen wipers. And you might say, well you get used to it. No you don’t. Like most people, with a family, I drive multiple cars on a regular basis. I’d just like the stalks to light. Everything I can see in the day, I need to see at night. Simple as that. A fully darkened cabin, is just painful. Take care all. PS - My Prius gets around this, by having a centrally-focused LED that shines down only illuminating the gear-knob (PRNDL stick) area. But for stalks, nothing beats some kind of internal green light made to show all the controls.

How the world has moved on and forgotten the 'horrors' of diesel, eh? Wow - almost 60mpg overall in this Yaris - my head can't handle such numbers. Oh, wait a moment, I drive a diesel that gives me 70mpg.... It also doesn't have to lug about the mass of extra batteries. Get rid of the dreadful DPF (tick) and it's perfect as far as I'm concerned. I honestly don't know what I'm going to drive when my current car dies (maybe 2030?) - or is that the plan, to make people so disheartened about the alternatives for personal motoring that they give up and submit to communal transport like good peasants? As for the price of new cars these days - it's a sick joke. My father (a pensioner with considerably higher income than worker me) likes to change his car every three or four years, but the amount he spends doing so is terrifying. I'm doing my best to convince him that he should retain his current car (a 67-plate Focus - shockingly old for his standards already). The winning stroke in my argument is that nothing newer than 2017 has a CD player in it and he wouldn't have a car without one (and neither would I, for that matter). That and the fact that his 6-year-old car probably doesn't even have 30k miles on the clock - it's almost like new. He will need to be careful of the 'Ecoboom' phenomenon, of course - Ford's brilliant wet-belt design where the cam belt disintegrates and the debris clogs the filter in the oil pick-up; I hope his local Ford dealer removes the sump to clean it out at every oil change - not doing so is a recipe for disaster.
