I've noticed that since I ordered my RF 200-800 lens for $1899 it's been listed as backordered. If I look at some websites selling it for $2499 they say they have them. I think it's a dirty "bait and switch" when I place an order for one price and that same item is only made available at some point at the higher price while my order stays at a perpetual "backordered" status. To me, that's an unscrupulous business practice. If a company wants to raise the price they have every right to do so, but to refuse to honor the price given at ordering time is not honorable.

I gave up on even trying to get the 200-800. I ended up using that money for a new iPad while waiting for the RF 300-500 F4 (if that even shows up!).

It is unscrupulous, but it's not Canon. When new products come out unscrupulous vendors buy them up (which is partially responsible for creating shortages) and mark up the price, knowing they will be backordered at legitimate dealers, and knowing that some people will become impatient and pay the price. It should be illegal. I remember when I was a kid and my dad took me to a sold out ballgame. There were always shady characters hanging around reselling tickets at a big markup. Back then it was called "scalping" and was against the law. Nowadays it's called Ticketmaster! Common business practices!

Does the same website you ordered from now offer it for $2499.00? I have seen it offered at that price on ebay and a few photo sites, but not from the big authorized dealers. Unfortunately there is nothing illegal about buying a bunch of a new item that you think will be in short supply and reselling them for a profit.

@@alansach8437 I finally received my lens! It's as if they knew I was about to cancel, and the price was $1899 as I ordered it. B&H still has it listed for that price, so good on them! Other vendors jumped to $2399 after I placed my order with B&H so I really didn't want to cancel. It started to feel like B&H wanted me and others to cancel our orders so they could raise their price and not honor the $1899 we all ordered under. Fortunately it wasn't like that. B&H did their customer right!

Simon I bought my first Canon camera when I was 17, I’m now 70 and this is the worst time EVER for waiting for products (I did wait for the RF200-800mm as well) I’ve had to go on a wait list for a camera in this instance the R5 MKII and the dealer has no idea when they will be able to fulfil it. Ironically I can buy a double pack of LP-E6P batteries! It would not be so bad if it were not for the fact here in the UK we pay some of the highest prices in the world and Canon now make you pay for the CPS service so what the hell are we getting from Canon in the UK? Less and less it seems.

Can someone please tell me why we are so concerned about "recovery signs"? Shouldn't we be more concerned about the companies putting out good product. And they are not doing the "snow job" Canon is putting on us (see R1- flagship). Just curious!!

At any sporting event, music festival, wedding, and beyond, cell phone cameras vastly outnumber interchangeable lens cameras for capturing memorable moments. For seasoned photographers, including professionals, DSLR-style mirrorless cameras are currently the trend, promising market growth. The rapid evolution of smart technology features in cameras prompts pro photographers to update their older models. The smart editing capabilities of the latest cell phone cameras are reducing the reliance on desktop photo editing software. Most consumers prefer editing digital files directly on their cell phones equipped with built-in applications. Eventually, mirrorless cameras may plateau in technological advancement, potentially leading to a market slowdown, including the demand for lenses. Predicting future camera trends remains a challenge, but it's clear that digital cameras are here to stay, while film cameras are increasingly relegated to closets, give-aways, and antique stores.

Let us see more data before making any judgement. What's the point of increasing sales numbers when the big brand cannot provide the market with ordered products? As it is, it will only worsen an already worse situation...

Cameras have been stagnant, Canon has half the market, customers that would buy what we have now have. Now Canon has come out with 2 new lines of camera. In addition other makers have also come out with new cameras an incentive to buy. That's why sales should go up.

Let's be real, the Camera makers (Canon, Sony, Fuji, etc.) have done a rather poor job for decades at bringing newcomers into the hobby. Why?, because for the longest they only catered to "professional" photographers whilst completely ignoring the casual market (i.e the BIGGEST consumer market). Hell, even the cheapest "budget" camera will run the average consumer around $500.00 USD just for the body alone. Factor in the various costs of additional lenses, editing software and the growing smartphone market and the fact is photography will always remain a very niche and expensive hobby. And that's with a minor uptick in sales, eventually both sales and tech will plateau out and remain there...

Thanks for your video. Interchangeable lens cameras are going to be a minority interest. Manufacturers are obviously producing to order and creating scarcity to keep prices up. R5s, R1s etc are not for ordinary folk, but aimed at professionals and rich people. I am not surprised that European customers are having to wait so long as this is probably the one market that has declined the most. The acid test is how many R50s, R10s and their equivalents from rival camera manufacturers are sold.

I'd say that smart phones are for ordinary people with price pushing $1000 to $2000 getting them to upgrade every two to three years. I think they used to offer a lot more value. When I retire, I think I will do away with the phone.

Canon like all companies must determine demand before purchasing parts. The parts issue is likely a white lie. A parts issue because corporate low balled the demand. Serious issues if they build too much product. Probably not an easy task to determine demand. The market is not expanding if this is just a refresh to mirrorless. I am one that decided now is the time to transition to mirrorless. If they are exciting young people to the hobby or profession. Then it is expanding.
