The McLaren has significantly more downforce at the front end, and based on Norris' in-car footage, the front-end pointing is excellent. However, the lack of downforce at the rear end forces him to ease off the throttle. Compared to the MCL35 from 2020, the vehicle characteristics of the MCL38 are completely opposite. The MCL35, with its significant rear downforce, could tackle the Pouhon corner at full throttle, but the lack of front downforce forced McLaren to take to the kerb.

could you please upload w11 qualifying with the telemetry throttle brake etc
@Srga91
2 ай бұрын
The telemetry data are quite interesting to compare. The W11 can brake later into T1 and gains about 0.3 from corner entry to exit. Then the McLaren shines, taking 0.5 out of the Mercedes from Eau Rouge to Les Combes. Now the W11 takes over again taking T5-7 about 15 kph quicker than the 2024 McLaren. Cornering speeds in T8+9 are roughly the same, but the W11 is able to brake later. Norris was a bit cautious on the entry of Pouhon (T10/11), but still only loses 0.02 to the Mercedes. The real damage is down in the following three corners, where the W11 takes 0.6 out of the McLaren (T12 +8 kph, T13 +11 kph, T14 +14 kph) and is able to brake later again. Norris claws a tenth back on the run to the Bus Stop and another one through the chicane itself. Please keep in mind that Norris' lap wasn't in full qualifying spec, as he certainly had a bit fuel in reserve and didn't attack every corner 100%. Therefore the cornering speeds may be a touch misleading. On the other hand, I don't know how much the resurfacing had an influence on laptimes.

True but it's fp only. Not qualifying.

Just 2 or 3kmh lower while it was FP. They could be faster than in 2020 if someone makes a very good lap.

Shame it's going to be a wet quali (of course), I'd love to see how close can they get to the 1:41.252 set by Hamilton in the W11

The track resurfacing made GT3 cars 3 seconds faster so they should easily beat it if it was dry maybe next year is the last chance for a while because 2026 cars will have low downforce

@@sbrader97Track being resurfaced wouldnt make anywhere near close to 3 second difference in F1. 2023 cars would probably do :42.xxx . Looking at usual improvement in f1 during these regs is around 7-8 tenths, I would say current cars could beat W11 on pace around Spa.

I think this would have been the first cars to beat the W11 time around a circuit partially due to resurfacing and just the high speed corner capabilities of these cars
