Thanks for putting Rock Hard on the list, Richard and for letting people know what you did and didn't like about the game. I definitely want people who get the game to love it and I hope people who feel the same as you do spent their hard-earned money elsewhere at the con -- there were so many great games! Looking forward to meeting you one of these days.

@@rahdo Thank you, Richard! You and I have been in the same ambit at times but never crossed paths. I must work to remedy that. I love your channel and always appreciate your honest reviews and love for gaming.

I absolutely loved Rock Hard '77 - the theme and gameplay really hit well for me. I think while the actions were small and incremental, the decision making behind that went quickly. I absolutely agree with you about Spectacular. Such a fantastic game.

Really think you didnt give Slay the Spire enough plays. Didn't you say that you only played a couple acts? So you didn't even unlock the more complicated cards or the tougher enemies, along with the 4th act and harder ascension levels. It's a lot less "on rails" than you think it is. It gets very difficult and really requires smart deck building, getting the right relics, and plotting the right path to be able to survive and make it to the end.

that could very well be, but on the other hand, if someone tells me "you REALLY need to wait until the second season of this show to get good" or "after the first 100 pages of this novel, it really takes off", i'm probably not going to go for that book or show. i'll just go for something that's compelling right from the beginning given my druthers :)

That's fair, I just think since you've played so many games you get very dismissive quickly if you think "oh this is like that other game but worse". It probably doesn't really matter because even if you have misconceptions of the game, the fact that you didn't enjoy it from the start means it probably wouldn't matter in the end. Just saying that while I respect your opinion, the things you stated as "facts" aren't actually true. To say it's easy and on rails is just plain wrong.

The only thing that bothers me with the new Yokohama is the fact that the names of the locations/buildings isnt printed on the tiles anymore. Not exactly knowing what it is (in real life) could hit the immersion of the game. I hope you can directly identify by the pictures. Look how Istanbul did it. One side English, one side another language (e.g. German).

oh that's a very good point that i didn't even think of. it didn't occur to me because in 2p there aren't that many buildings, and it's easy to remember what they all are! but yeah, i agree, that is an unfortunate step back for immersion!

Bora Bora is probably my favorite Feld. My wife and I enjoy it for all the reasons you do not lol. The set up can be a pain though, and there is a lot of rules grit. I would be interested in seeing Cuzco, but so far none of the games in the “City Collection” have replaced any of the older editions that I have. For me, I find the illustrations more charming in the older editions, not to mention the MSRP is a bit high in the new editions. Perhaps in a few years it will be cheaper on the secondary market.

there's a bunch of small tweaks but the main new change is that there are tons of unique god cards, instead of just the same five every single game over and over. that one thing makes cuzco SO much more interested from session to session, i could never go back to bora bora (not that either games works for us anyway) :)

Hello, does Spectacular plays similar than Castle of Burgundy? Are they redundant in a small board game collection? Thank you

Interesting to see Gardlings at 17 and Cubitos at 4 especially as you mention that push your luck does not work well for you. Isnt cubitos also very push your luck? Just curious on your thoughts on why one may work so much better for you than the other.

yeah, basically i like rolling dice more than pulling things out of bags, plus since i can see all the dice and how the probability is on each one, it's easier to calculate probabilities, rather than having to try to remember what's still in the bag :)

Luthier is pretty flat, and with dice rolling ugh. There are better similar designs. Woodcraft is out for some time, and we recently got Inventions from Lacerda and Inventors of SOuth Tigris is on the horizon.
