What is the survival for cases of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Many resources online quote survival figures for IPF of 3-5 years from diagnosis. This can be very scary for most patients. However, 3-5 years represents a median, or middle number in a very large group of patients.
Therefore survival will depend a lot on individual circumstances and the behavior of the disease.
I would really recommend asking your own healthcare team about appropriate information for your case, as the disease behavior of IPF differs a lot from person to person.
It is important to remember that IPF is a diagnosis of exclusion, and we can only exclude a relatively small number of causes. This makes IPF very different from case to case. Not all cases of IPF are the same.
