Any cons with 4.10 like if speed and responses goes up does torque, payload or towing go down?
@DrivingIntelligence
Жыл бұрын
Good question. Vehicle manufacturers actually increase towing capacity with shorter gears, like 4.10s. But there of course are other factors to increasing towing capacity like engine & transmission coolant systems and structural design. Shorter gearing makes it much easier for the vehicle to pull loads and maintain speeds. The only negative I feel "might" be considered is accelerated engine and transmission wear because they are turning faster, but this needs to be balanced against the lesser loads the engine and transmission see with shorter gears. The short answer is, for me, no real negatives.

Helpful video. Im having my shop change out 3.55s to 4.10s in my 97 Ford diesel as we speak. It's always been a slug taking off from a stop and I'm hopeful with the 410s that will change.

4.10's will make a huge difference. I'm struggling because my highway fuel economy has dropped over 70mph. Narrowing my issue down to a sensitive knock sensor that gets over-happy over 2,000 rpm. I plan to update my 4.10 install once I get this resolved, hopefully through a revised custom tune.

@@catoilsalesman9158 I just answered the same comment from someone running 37's and told him he wants to run 4.88 gears. With your set-up using 33's, 4.10 gears will get you in the general rpm range for a stock 10th gen running 3.73's, but not quite.

the 4.10's are better for towing especially with bigger/taller tires. easier on the transmission. my buddy has a 92 F150 5spd manual with tall tires, we are installing 4.10's to help his clutch last longer.

You are right! But I'm also finding the fuel economy is pretty much a wash. The truck is much happier, but I had to find the sweet spot with a custom tune to get the best fuel economy performance. Thanks for the comment!

Did you make another 0 to 60 video and towing video? I have a 2010 F150 with the 5.4, 355 gears and 33s and I would like to upgrade to 410s. I know the transmission in my truck is a good bit different and likely the engine as well. I tow a 99 Triton TR21 a good bit and I am not happy with the acceleration whenever I leave the boat ramp. When I leave the ramp I have to go up a decent hill, but definitely not a steep one. It feels like the truck should downshift but it doesn't. From around 15 to 40 mph I can have it floored and it is pretty slow. Otherwise it pulls the boat pretty welll. I do have a SCT x4 and the 5 star custom tunes along with the canned tune. I have went back and forth between their performance/tow tune and the SCT tune. I think theirs is a little better but it also costs me mpg. I have also cleared the Keep Alive Memory thinking that it may help make the truck shift.
@DrivingIntelligence

I haven't yet done the 0-60 pull nor the towing video. I did tow my boat to the ramp with the new gears and it is a world of difference. I'm slightly hesitant to push my truck right now with a 251,000 mile transmission, hence, no 0-60 run yet. I want to finish rebuilding my spare tranny before I push the truck that hard. It's my dog's daily driver! ;)

Suggestion, tell the 5-Star team what you're dealing with in terms of down-shifts. They can make adjustments of your tune to make it do what you need.

@DrivingIntelligence how much time did you shave off your 0-60 with your 5.4 going from 3.55 to 4.10s?
@DrivingIntelligence
2 ай бұрын
@ryang7720 it’s a good question, to be honest I didn’t improve acceleration at all to 60 mph. I think there is a problem with the computer tune supporting the higher RPMs and I’m still trying to work that out. Towing capacity and maintaining speed on hills is vastly improved.

Do you feel more torque from the swap? I’ve looked at few 4.10 gears in the 250 range. But that’s going to have to wait for me in the middle of saving up to rebuild the front suspension and replace the front calipers and brake pads.
@DrivingIntelligence
2 жыл бұрын
Do you plan on doing the gears yourself? After I saw the amount of tools I would need to buy, and having to do 2 axles, I decided to pay someone. In terms of torque? I've not towed anything yet and I've not done a hard pull given the break-in requirements. I am going to do the fuel economy loop early this week.

Thanks for watching and reaching out. Depending on what you want to do with this truck, it could be a good option. Is it a standard cab? Extended cabs are heavier. The V6 is not known for power. Personally, I would go with either the 4.6 or 5.4 engine. Soon I plan to do a video that covers my watch-outs for buying a used 10th Gen F150.

We bought a new 3/4 ton dodge in 72 with a four speed and a 360 small block. That motor was turning about 3000 at highway speed. Today's trucks with 10 speed transmissions have at least two levels of overdrive.to keep rpm down to save mi,age and wear and tear. Engine speeds are much lower for good reasons. I can't see how your better off unless always under load. 3.55 should be fine.
