Even 4 day upper/lower split is not optimal for me. To hit quads, hamstrings, lower back in the same session is pretty brutal. A 4 day push/pull setup is ok for me. 1 - Push (which includes Quads) 2 - Pull (which includes hamstrings/Lower back) Full body is another realm for me, and I assume for many people.

I've been able to grow with purposely avoiding trying to get stronger. Sure my rep strength goes up a little here and there. But I'm not purposely trying to get stronger. I don't want to be so strong to where I have to use heavier weights, I want to be doing this till the day I die. So the slow approach to strength gain is my approach , about to break 220lbs omw to 230
@brianbadonde8700
2 жыл бұрын
So how do you progress, just more sets
@AntstrengthUnlimited
2 жыл бұрын
@@brianbadonde8700 any increases in weight I feel I need are as small as possible sometimes that's all you need to grow. And yes, as for current school of training, volume considered the primary mode of growth, but also volume is biggest contributor to accumulated fatigue. So the trick is being able to increase volume while managing fatigue. Also , another way of growth people seem to gloss over and one that I champion is the development of mind muscle connection. It is my experience that there are different levels of connectivity that are not covered by most fitness influencers. Thank you for asking the question. Maybe I'll do a more in depth video on it. But everyone knows consistency is a prime factor in changing the body. For example after my first 3 yrs of training (mainly body weight exercises) I thought I had training mastered(I mean how hard can it be to just push/pull stuff?😅) well I was very wrong, and as time went on, I would break unseen platues, that would totally blow my mind and make me reevaluate my whole training. There ARE different degrees of mind muscle connection. Take Jay cutler for example , he's said himself that he uses high volumes to train, he's also said on video that he could get the same job done in just 1 or 2 sets IF he wanted to. So you see, with a more developed awareness of the body you can take the same weight and alter the amount of stimulus you get from it just thru mind muscle connection. Also , I tend to follow RP training methods in terms of increasing volume every week for so many weeks then taking an easy active rest week to recover that accumulated fatigue from all the volume. But don't regress or loose progress for those 1-2 weeks of what I call "half ass training" cuz everything is cut in half basically. It takes FAR less to MAINTAIN what you have, so during those "deload" weeks is when you see the most growth which is fun. To put in 4-8weeks of hard work. Then 1 week of taking it easy and just getting a tiny pump so the body may grow,repair and recovery in preparation for the next go, while also sensitizing the body to hard work . I do the same with any performance supplements im taking, literally building muscle is like building tolerance to a drug . So once you hit that platue you know its time to take a little break. While eating good too, its mainly the stimulus you are after. How much weight is on the bar doesn't mean as much as ppl think. And like i said , it helps to prevent injuries by not pushing heavier and heavier weights before you've got the mass to contain the strength. More muscle protects your joints and ligaments aswell. The biggest thing I think ppl miss, is just how big a role proper nutrition plays. The most anabolic substance known to man isn't steroids its FOOD. Just eating protien alone spikes protien synthesis. But yes I utilize super sets, drop sets ect and increase the volumes each week , then deload , return volumes to starting point maybe add a little weight, as less as possible and run thru it all again. Like those ladder games where you gata tilt it left and right to get the ball to climb up . Anyway thank you for the question, and sorry about the horribly long response, but I wanted to do my best to answer so that you understand. #Antstrength #Roadto230lbs

Gyms werre closed during the lock down and I relapsed for the entire time, then got clean about a month before the gyms opened back up and so that first year was mainly muscle memory and recovering what I had lost.
