I'm giving you 3 lessons I learned from money for presentations on this week's episode of MasterTalk. Visit www.rockstarco... to attend one of my FREE LIVE online trainings.
1. Money, much like public speaking, amplifies who you already are. (0:51)
The fascinating part about money is you have two completely different camps. You have one side that goes money is the root cause of all evil and the other end of the spectrum is that it’s a force for change and making a difference in the world. In many ways, both camps are right. Money is an amplifier of who you already are.
If you were donating a lot of money to charity and are a nice person while you didn’t have it, when you start to accumulate it, you’ll naturally give a lot more, you’ll treat your family more often, you’ll use it and invest in the right way. But, the opposite is also true. If you were a terrible person before you started making money, well when you have it, you’ll spend it on the wrong things.
Public speaking works in the same way. It’s an amplifier of who you are as you get better overtime. All of the people I’ve worked with over the years, at the beginning, are incredible at 1 on 1 conversations with me, super comfortable, at ease, social, even the introverts, but when it’s presentation time, they start to get worried or stressed and don’t get the results they want immediately.
2. The best returns come from small, consistent actions overtime. (3:02)
Money is a multiplier. You accumulate and invest small amounts of money overtime and through the power of compounded interest and the right choices, you eventually have enough saved up to retire gracefully. This analogy applies for many things in life like our health, the relationships we have with the people that we love and living with peace of mind. None of these can be achieved overnight, in the same way that public speaking requires small consistent actions overtime to get the results you’re looking for.
That’s why I treat communication in many ways like money, there’s a multiplier effect here. As you get better with your presentation skills, slowly but surely, all other areas of communication will also improve without you even practising them. This could be conversational skills, negotiation skills, meeting skills, and anything you can think of, mastering one area of communication helps you master them all overtime.
Trust me when I say, that if you spend every today working on your communication skills everyday even if it’s just having a conversation with them, you will get better overtime, I promise you that.
3. Use money for the same purpose as your ideas, to give back to others. (4:59)
What is the purpose of money anyways? Is it to buy a fancy car? A jet, maybe an island? I’ve never believed that to be the case, for me money, has always been about making a difference whether it’s investing it in work that matters like this KZitem channel or to give back to charity, money is a vehicle that we can use to make a difference and move what we believe in the world forward.
Public speaking to me serves that same purpose. When you become an exceptional communicator one day, it’s a lot more than just about presenting to whoever’s in the room with courage & charisma, it’s a responsibility and a duty to share your insights with the world.
When I started this KZitem channel, it wasn’t about me being this “speaker” or anything, I just believe in a world where no one is scared of public speaking, if we all lived in a world like that, we would all share our ideas with courage and the enthusiasm they rightfully deserve, so use your voice, your message in the same way you use money, to help other people and make a difference that matters.
