Clever solution on the keyway. I would have cut the blank down the middle, milled the keyway in the flat stock, glued it back together, and then put it in the lathe. There would have been a tricky bit at the edge of cylinder where the the keyway begins to daylight, but I think it is possible. Yours looks simpler.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it, I was going to do the tail piece because I didn't have a clue how to do the warding, then this idea suddenly came along, that's why I was a bit nervous about if it would work, but thankfully it did.

lovely stuff pete! really is! months ago i started making my own brass lock from scratch, been a secret project on the backburner, warding was my biggest problem too. in tge end im creating the core from thin brass peices riveted and soldered together in a laminate, with some projecting into the keyway as warding...

Wow, very cool,I always wanted to try making a lock but I was trying to figure out how one would do the keyway and couldent think of anything but using a coping saw or broaching, but that would require some special tooling

Pete, this is such a cool project. I think I've probably said this more than once. You have me inspired to dust off my wood lathe and do a project like this with my oldest son. On a side note, have you got my last emails? I have two email addresses for you in my gmail contacts and sent an email to each. I'm just hoping my emails aren't being black-holed. I want to send that ipe (Ironwood/Brazilian Walnut/Lapacho) to you without passing the shipping charges to the UK off onto Randy. Average dried weight: 69 lbs/ft3.
