@@elitehunter5073 hi: you don’t know me, but I too, am very saddened at what happened. I have a question for you, if you don’t mind: in watching the video of the crash, it appears that the chutes deployed WHILE the afterburners were still on. That seems abnormal as all the runs I’ve ever seen looked as though the engines were totally throttled down and afterburners off when chutes deployed. Any thoughts on what may have gone wrong? And my sincerest condolences to the Darnell family and friends.

For everyone who might be mistaken.. the owner/driver featured in this video is Neal Darnell.. his son Chris, is the one who unfortunately passed away in the tragic freak accident with shockwave. The Darnell’s are a racing family.. and purchased Shockwave in the late 2000s from the original owner and builders son and driver of Shockwave for many, many years, Kent Shockley.

He tried to counter steer. At that point it was too late. It looked like the right engine had an un-contained failure that pierced the fuel tank and blew the right tires which caused the right yaw loss of control. It was not recoverable. The truck as it approaches mid field appears to jump momentarily. There were parts that fly off then the drogue shoot inflates then the skid. I hope investigators can figure out the cause.
