I love this cinema: the wall texture, those proper seats and that you didn’t cram it full of posters etc! A nice example of how less can be so much more. Personally I prefer this to the big $$$ slick ones you see on YT. Probably bc I’m older and this feels like cinema to me. Well done!

Thank you for your kind comments. There’s a new video with some subtle changes - new chairs. But yes, kept everything quite minimal. It’s a small room so didn’t want to overload it with stuff on the wall.

Really enjoyed watching, some very good design ideas. I have a standard UK garage so absolutely no good for a car. I am now thinking of doing something similar initially with LCD but the option to install 35 and or 16mm projector as I have access to both (if I can persuade him to let one of his collection go).

Thank you. Took a couple of months (mainly weekends) to get this built but literally consists of stud walls so that it can easily be taken down if we ever move. From the outside, it still looks like a garage. Good luck with your build when you get to do it :)

Love the idea of carpet tiles on the wall!

I thought about hanging some sort of curtain up, but it was cheaper to do the tiles. The only thing is that the glue has started to loosen and so some fell off. Rectified that by using a staple gun!

I work at a single-screen indie cinema in Northern California and have started to draft a plan to convince our owners to add 35mm projection capability. I'd would be infinitely grateful if you'd be willing to correspond with me about how you were able to achieve this.

quick question: when you watch 35mm is it annoying since youre so close from the projector itself ? You must hear the flicking sound of the device... is is annoying or maybe it add to the experience ?
@Reel35
3 жыл бұрын
This is one reason why the projector sits in its own room, with a wall in-between which cuts out most of the noise. You can still hear it in the background but I think that this is all part of the experience :)

Hey, thanks. So my garage is roughly 5m x 2.7m. I don’t have the space for a platter, so using a tower system.

hello, I also have my home theater, with digital and 35.16mm. I don't have a projection booth, now seeing yours I think I will. what are the measurements of your cinema. not from the cabin do you have facebook?.
@Reel35

Hi, thank you. If you have the space, then it’s worth putting in a projection room just to keep noise out. Mines a bit of a squeeze but it works. The total width of the garage is 2.6 meters, and 5 meters long. The projection room is about 1.3m long :)

Haha love your comment. So, instead of a platter system I’m using a long play tower which holds the film on large reels instead of holding it on a platter. Towers were quite common in the UK as projection rooms in older cinemas were often a bit small.

What is your opinion on digital vs film projection?
@Reel35
Жыл бұрын
Digital is ok - the image is much sharper but sometimes I think it looks too flat or perfect. Film gives it a bit of life! If I had a choice, it will always be film.

Why did you add carpet to walls for?
@Reel35
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, it acts as sound dampening. If I kept it as just drywall then there would be an echo effect. The carpet tiles on the wall help reduce that. Most cinemas will have a similar material on the wall for this purpose.
