Greg, I'm beginning to have a problem with your videos! Irrespective of the fact that I shoot a compound bow, I've become a big fan all your videos both on the Archery 101 channel and 3D Archery channel. All have been informative and entertaining. However the issue I'm now having is that the more I watch the more I feel myself getting drawn into trying traditional archery! I'm not sure if I want to thank you or curse you! I'm only kidding. I give you much thanks and only ask that you keep up the great vids. This review has pretty much convinced me that "resistance is futile" 😄 For about $160 plus the cost of some arrows, it's hard to find a reason not to give traditional archery a try! So ya....... Thanks! Thank you very much.

Let me tell you as a guy who switched about 5 years ago about trad. Not saying its bad (obviously because I'm never going back), but just because you shot compound and could put a group of 3 or 4 into a 2" circle like I could doesn't mean you know archery. I've found that my form snd ideals had to change to become successful. With the grip, wrist sling, and stabilization of a compound, you can have a relaxed bow arm. However for some, including me, you have to put a lot into your bow arm from your back, deltoid, triceps, biceps, forearm, and grip to keep the bow twisting in you hands or preventing form expansion upon release (i.e. "Pulling left" and hitting left). Also understand to get an accurate shot, proper spined arrows are needed. I find using a dynamic spine calculator takes all the guesswork out. I'll also add as a hunter, spine also allows for heavier arrows. Stiffer spine allows for heavier points and stiffer spine usually has shafts heavier in grians/inch.

+Sonicguy95 Thanks for your input. I'm not totally sure if you meant it as encouragement, or a warning of things to expect, but either way your input is appropriated. However, to be honest, I'd just be in it just for the fun of it, and Greg has an infectious way of making traditional archery look fun! To be honest, I don't even hunt. I just really enjoy walking through the woods shooting targets!
@Sonicguy95

+Paul Farrell Ah ok. I do hunt. And I shot a mean compound. So I can get frustrated with my accuracy at times even though most trad people would say I'm "really good". Trad isn't that bad, but if you don't realize and separate that the styles can be two different breeds, you will never do good. But otherwise trad is fun. I enjoyed it more than compound because it is a constant learning experience. That and compound just became too easy, I might as well have been using a muzzleloader or shotgun to shoot them. Most compound hunters would say that is the point: take out uncertantity. But my rebuttal to that is thar bow hunting is about one thing: challenge. In all reality: if someone isn't getting excitement from the challenge of hunting for sport: they need to stop doing it.

This is the video that got me back into archery again! Ages ago I had to sell all of my equipment because kids came along and I was afraid they would find it (you can't hide anything from kids, no matter how hard you try!) and end-up hurting someone or themselves. So to be safe, I sold everything and out of sight, out of mind, I moved on from the hobby. Then one day I was watching this video. It kind of took me back to how I used to shoot in my back yard at the bags I used to hang in the tree, to keep me in shape in between shooting at clubs or stumping. I immediately ordered a Samick Sage and loved it. It was kind of a bonus for me because I never owned a take down bow before, I was strictly a recurve shooter, but I like the new portability of it. I quickly learned that somehow 50lbs is a lot more to pull than I remember. So I ordered 30lb limbs. That's better, but I must really be out of shape because that's a bit much too! I'll have to take baby steps apparently, once again! Everything has changed, yet it has remained the same. All the clubs I used to frequent are gone now, but there are new stumps to shoot at. A lot of improvements have been made, and so many options! WOW! Even new kinds of arrows. The latest greatest thing in my day was aluminium arrows! Its all almost over whelming! I recently came across a used Samick Polaris at a fair price, so now I already have 2 bows in my new collection. In a lot of ways I miss my old 66" Bear, but its been so long, I don't think I'd do any better if I had it now either! Still sad though, because it would be vintage today! Anyway, thank you Greg for making this video! I'm not sure my wallet would want to thank you, but I sure do!!!

Hardkore71 I bought my sage #50 back in 2014 I had zero experience shooting anything other than a Walmart youth compound. About 10 years prior. The guys at cabelas let me try out one of their demo bows and after 5 arrows they asked I was sure I hadn't shot a bow before. Lol, they set me up with everything I need and the rest is history, I still use my sage everyday and you would not believe how good you can get after a single day off just popping cans and targets. I could take a rabbit at 50 yards with it now.

I have looked at other reviews on this bow. I'm surprised that you didn't find any directions. The other reviews had them. Anyway, they are usually marked as upper and lower limbs with a sticker marker, and the bow stats are on the lower limb. It's usually also sent with stick on moleskin type stuff for the shelf. Maybe it's because you ordered the riser and limbs as separate items rather than as a complete bow. And yes, I intend to get one for myself.

Greg, I haven't shot a recurve bow since the early 70's. I'm strictly a recreational and 3D shooter who doesn't hunt and uses a 50# compound bow. Would you have a recommendation on what pound limbs I should get for a Samick Sage? I really enjoyed my recurve bow back in the 70's but what little I knew back then has long since been forgotten. I was thinking 35 or 40 lbs, but I really don't have a clue. Any thoughts or recommendation you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by orientation.

i think they meant which hand do you consider when deciding whether you need a left or right handed bow? thats the only thing that could make sense to me... if so, then its the hand that draws

Are the arrows a bit on the weak side since they are all hitting right?
@3DArchery

Could be, more likely that is cause by me not being use to a center cut bow and its sight picture and a poor release.

I've heard people bringing up a problem with stacking after about 28" on the Sage. You've probably answered this a million times already, but what is your draw-length? I'm considering buying one, but I have a 29.5" draw. Does anybody else here have any experience with the sage with that draw-length?

That's great to hear. Just found out that one of the archery-shops nearby has a Samick Journey. It's a Sage, but it's 64" instead of 62". They only have it up to 40# though. :P

I bought a sage 45lb today and am a 29.5 compound draw length. I find it stacks up really hard after 28inch. It's 2 bad I'm probably going to sell for that reason.

Difference between this and the Vista Sage 62"? They look the same to me.

Most likely they are. That bow is sold under different brands and names.

That is what I thought. After I watched your video, I couldn't find a local vendor for the Samick, but we have Bass Pro Shop in my area and bought the Vista from then last week. The finish was about like you stated on the Samick, a few cosmetic areas, but very minor. Thanks for your great left-handed' videos, they help a newbie left-handed guy like me.

If you should vanned arrows you need an arrow rest and the stock string is junk ---- so I have been told by several 'experts' - are these statements true?
@3DArchery

I know people that use vanes with no rest. It is not the best way to use them, but it can be done. wouldn't recommend it though.

My first bow was the Samick Polaris which is the brother of the Sage basically but it's essentially the same bow, so much so that the limbs are interchangeable between the Sage and Polaris but it's a great shooter and I love shooting it with my 25# or 35# set of limbs, either way it shoots great and is really nice for how inexpensive the bow is. Though I will always prefer shooting my Win&Win Black Wolf more the Samick Polaris and Sage are both extremely nice bows for anyone looking to get started in Archery!
