There r also many bad stories like 朱定伯捉鬼 about a boy tricking a ghost and selling it(even tho the ghost did nothing to the boi) 南阳宋定伯年少时,夜行逢鬼。 (here it is)

These are really cool stories.....very romantic. But something puzzles me - all of these stories show the couples as very much in love and weren't afraid to profess and show their love. In present day, it seems that Asian couples are more stoic - well...maybe more my parent's generation, do you see this. I typically do not see Asian couples as "lovey-dovey." I wonder why this is the case?
@TheFeyRa

Sue Duong they're not that lovey-dovey, I think. The people in these stories show their love through action rather than words, which is maybe how your parents would act? Note that these people were undergoing some sort of tragedy, which would have forced them to be more demonstrative than they otherwise would be.

That's why I don't like Xu Xian. If Bai Su Zhen had wanted to harm him, why hadn't she done it earlier on? Why wait till she had a child with him?? After all that time they've spent together, that meant nothing to Xu Xian in the end when compared to the fact that she's a snake monster. That doesn't sound like true love to me. If you hadn't already, I would suggest watching The Sorcerer and the White Snake 2011. It's a movie, and the Xu Xian in that movie isn't as much of a wimp.

in the story of the White Snake, the sister could have been Black or Green Snake (depending on which part of Cina you heard the story and which dialect the storyteller spoke). in the version I was told as a child, the White Snake was cursed by the monk to be imprisoned inside the temple until a great iron post which stood in front of the temple should bloom with flowers. When her son grew up and passed the imperial exams, he and his family went to announce the joyful news and to pray for his mother's release, with Green Snake. It being a hot day, he took off his imperial candidate's cap and hung it on the iron post. The cap was decorated with flowers, and Green Snake seeing the "flowers blooming on the iron post" understood that the monk's curse had been defeated by White Snake's son at last. Using her own magical powers, she broke open the temple's prison and released her sister, White Snake.

This is a drama series about the story of the Cow Herder and the Weaving Maiden. The Little Fairy 2005. A very touching drama series with a similar story about a mortal man and an immortal maiden being in love. The Butterfly Lovers: Leon and Jo. This is an animated film based on the legend of the Butterfly Lovers. The Sorcerer and the White Snake 2011. This is a film about the legend of white snake. I think there are English subs for The Little Fairy, The Butterfly Lovers: Leon and Jo, and the Sorcerer and the White Snake, but I'm not sure about the others.

Chrysillis xxlovekpop in old time, grown boys and girls are not allowed to meet. So Liang never met a girl before. In fact when Liang walk the girl back, she gave him 18 hints in 18 km. The Act called 十八相送 "18 farewells". After their teachers wife told him the fact, the next act 回十八 "Back 18", is he walked again that 18 km, every sense he passed , he remembered what the girl told him, and laughed and blamed himself.

Chen Dynasty. The music used for the last story - isn't it "Endless Love" from the Jackie Chan movie "The Myth" ? I LOVE that song - even more so because Jackie Chan is singing and it's SO beautiful. Hearing this really made my day, thank you for the sharing the stories.

Because Japan and Korea love the history and made a festival too I think, remember that Korea and Japan adapted Chinese culture to their own culture!

These are not true stories right? Just some folklore.

Yea, but most folk lores tend to come from real stories, plus the butterfly lovers doesn't really have much of a supernatural element, and is assumed to be real...

story number one: smart and brave girl falls in love with an idiot, who despite being so close with her and despite her constant hints, couldn't get the point until it was too late. then the girl is supposed to get married to a GIFTED (smart and talanted person, who would have been a much better and equal companion for a smart girl like her) and rich person with higher status (the whole package, the best offer for girls at that time). After she agrees because of her family's expectations, she goes to grieve on her old crush's grave, but then the crush gets angry and kills her, so that they can be together in death. Seriously?! Dude, you have no right to ask for her hand or take her to the after life with you and ruining her chance to have a good life. Isn't that a bit selfish? If he loved her, how come he never saw any of the hints or the signs she was a woman? When you love someone you pay attention to them and start to notice more and more stuff about them. Story number two: Dude likes a pretty girl. But instead of talking to her/ asking a friend to talk to her for him or something normal, he decides to be a creep and steal her clothes. And if she asks why did he steal her dress, he'd just say "the cow/ox told me to." Seems legit. Let's put a ring on it. no wonder her parents were angry. Also the guy chased after his wife carring his kids. What happened with the kids? In the story only the two "lovers" are allowed to meet, but what about the kids?

The 3rd story is similar to ''Lamia'' by John Keats, in which a snake woman falls in love with a man. Lots of magic too, as well as a wise man who could see through her disguise as a woman. Fantastic epic poem. Give it a read.

I once saw a Chinese movie about lovers who meet and the girl is forced to marry a rich prince. The young man becomes her bodyguard and is forced to stand behind the curtain while the prince makes love to her. Eventually, soldiers come to kill her and he defends her even cutting his leg muscles so he can stand and fight to save her. Of course, being a Chinese movie they are both killed. Can anyone identify the name of the movie because I cannot find it, not knowing the name?
