This video was produced with thanks to the Project Miller/125 Group and the Great Central Railway Nottingham. I film it but they do the hardwork.
Prototype HST power car, 41001, had it's first test run under it's own power at the GCRN on the 31st May. I was lucky enough to be there.
The first shot shows the power car before the test in the platform at Ruddington and then 56097 moves the two coaches into position. The test was formed of 56097, 5376, 5497, 41001.
We move to the main GCRN line and in the distance the Grid hauls the train into position, go, go Valenta noise!
What a first departure, the power car starts off then powers up on approach to the bridge (Notch 5). I did try and get a shot off the other side of the bridge, you may hear the Grid Driver commenting about the smoke! There is nothing wrong with the power car it is just clearing many years of oil and carbon build up, the exhaust will soon clear.
The next shot is at East Leake platform, as the power car continues it's test (it had stopped elsewhere to allow checks to be carried out).
The test ran down the full line, my next shot is of the return to base with 56097 doing the honours and it is seen passing Rushcliffe Halt.
We return to Ruddington and the team involved pose for a photo and the 41001 heads off to be stabled after the successful test run. More work needs to be done, but public running may not be to far off.
Well done to the 125 Group Project Miller for all the hardwork put in. Please check out their websites and support the groups they need your help:
