There is significantly more power from your 4198 loads for sure. I'm thinkin with a possibly heavier hard cast boolit it would be even a better penetrator. Within 100 yds with correct placement you'd have a dead deer. What makes it super cool is hunting with an old cartridge in a period lever rifle ! Keep the vids coming.

Hey Richard! Thank you for watching! I also have those calibers in lever guns. I love to shoot them and see the damage to the target. I am headed to bed myself.

Great video guy. I found an old Lee reloading die insert that had loading data for the 44-40. I think it was dated around 2003. It list loads for 180-240 gr cast and jacketed bullets. The one that I tried and really liked was 240gr cast lead, 23.5 gr Reloader 7, with respectable published velocity of 1290. I have tried this load with Desparado 240 gr cast sized to .430 and it is super accurate out of my Winchester 1873 (Miroku). Haven't chronographed it as of yet, but will let you know when I do. It is nice to get some loads that give you some respectable velocities out of the 44-40. I don't know why you would want to load a rifle at 800-900 fps velocities. Kinda defeats the purpose of a rifle doesn't it? Perhaps that is a carry over from the cowboy action shooters.

Anan it’s really a great old round. It just got watered down over the years and turned into a plinking round. Even the Winchester jacketed soft nose deer hunting round is only just over 1100 fPs if it can be found. I am very happy that to have found this load.

Nice rifle, nice caliber, but visual effects would have been better with gallon milk jugs.... and cheap full soda pop cans...!!🤔

Wondering how hard your bullets are? A softer bullet may expand more with the higher velocity of your H4198 loads.

Haven't looked thoroughly through the comments but have you Chronographed your revolver? Just curious of the velocities with the hotter load if you did.

Never heard of one of them 🤔 😳 I think I could take a good sling shot a marble and do better 🤔 hard to believe anyone has ever killed a deer 🦌 with one.
