Have you been to Jazz Record Mart before Bob sold his stock, prior to opening Bob's Blues and Jazz Mart? It was a great store! A coupe of locations before, there was a newspaper clipping hangin on a string from the ceiling. The story said that JRM had 2000 Blues titles and 8000 Jazz titles in stock. I remember going to Rose Records under the L Tracks. A three story record store . Their Jazz section was huge. At the time (about 1985) I was collecting Blues records. I remember thinking, dang I'm glad I don't collect Jazz records, that would be expensive. Well, yes it is.

Hello, Dan! Just discovered your channel and enjoyed this travelogue immensely. I just moved to the Milwaukee area last year and haven’t made it down to Chicago yet. Really appreciate the suggestions here for record stores to check out, when I do. You made it to Bullseye in Milwaukee!! Great store! Has quickly become my favorite record store in the area. I always find fantastic jazz records every time I go in. And they have 78s, which I love. Anyway…Huge jazz fan, myself, so looking forward to more of your videos. Skol! Jeff

I’ll definitely checking out those stores, next time I’m in “The Chi.” I’m always leery about sellers on Discogs and EBay. Most times the sellers are super sketchy and refuse to answer specific questions about an albums condition. That’s a big red flag to NOT make the purchase.

100% I agree you should focus a little more on the reissues that are coming out, while putting them in historical context and talking about the music rather than the sound quality. I think this would be a boost for your channel AND would really help the jazz listening community. The "audiophile guys" buying these reissues do focus too much on pressings, but my sense is that most of them are genuinely curious and do love the music. There is a need for more knowledge about WHY these reissued titles coming out are important. Without you providing this knowledge, most of what is available on KZitem when these people search about new reissues is superficial consumerist bull*** with no talk at all about the music. For example, there are new Art Pepper reissues coming out soon under the "Contemporary Acoustic Sounds Series" (including for Record Store Day). It would be a shame if everyone searching for information about Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section can only find people talking about how it makes their speakers sound. PS -- congrats on the Teddy Edwards pickup!

Wife is a tolerant partner, who listens to all my music, and understands it is my life,... but her relationship with musis is not the same, she wants some rnb to clean the house, or some Snoop n Dre, or some Def Tones era hard rock nu metal... she likes some industrial stuff too... and she has learned to love a lot of what I play from Kaskade to Rudimental ...B Marley to Rage... At this point she listens to books most of the time .

Some interesting insights into your Chicago vinyl odyssey, Dan. The John Graas LP made me sit up and take note. I have some of his EPs (probably late 50s) on the UK Brunswick label. @@TheJazzShepherd Extortionate commercial leases combined with the trend to online has meant many second hand records stores have now closed their doors in London. One example is Harold Moore's (who were ostensibly classical specialists but with jazz in the basement) who closed about 5 years ago. I think it's now a boutique. There are many others who went the same way.
