I just realized why this song seems so rarity. The opening reminds me of her posing, but when the beat picks up...it's how she trots. The high mincing steps. But taken quickly and precise.

That chorus is giving me serious Lord of the Rings vibes. It's doubly sad because the show's gone too. That was actually one thing I never thought would happen. It had been around for nearly a decade, I think? ...Hmmm... Two stones for the pegasi under the sky, Two for Earth ponies on farms for stone, One for the unicorn not born to change. One for Twilight on her crystal throne, In the town of Ponyville where sanity dies... Magic to rule them all, Loyalty to bind them, Laughter to bring them all and in the castle bind them... You know, I get what you mean. There's some really good sea shanty type music out there though - including some brony stuff. "Lunar Pirate" is a good example (and also sung by MEMJ, the same as this song). A few days after listening to it I had an awesome dream about being in a pony airship battle. "Dragon Roost Island" from Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is also similarly themed, and is my favourite piece of music (Chant of Selflesness is 4th - also behind "Song of Storms" and "Baba Yetu"). The Muppets Treasure Island theme "Shiver My Timbers" is also really good.

I think the most impactful part of this song for me is "counting the days of a shortening life" it brings a bit of sad remembrance to it, like the person singing this knew her and greatly respected her, but she died maybe a bit too soon or something. there is also the fact that this is literally about her generosity and her giving people her all even though there seems to be an underlying tone of 'everyone knows her days are numbered, and yet she is still going strong'. i really just like the word choices in this.

So listening to this album kind of puts a good story in place, 4everfreebrony (whatever the oc's name is) lives in a world where a villain takes over and has a wall around Ponyville...the oldest pony ends up being a pony known as the Librarian (who also happens to be a Twilight reduced to her unicorn self with no memory of her friends who have passed away) 4everfreebrony has been having these reoccurring dreams of these Elements and realizes the memories had to be put somewhere as you can't destroy memory. The story revolves around this bard character trying to give the Librarian her memories back to defeat this villain and knock down the walls that hide the rest of Equestria who has been trying to break these walls down for years as they have the monumental charm that would show Twilight her memory 4everfreebrony would also find ponies that relate to the Elements (the female singers of the songs) who would help in whatever they can

Oh man. I've been waiting years for this. It was worth the wait (and staying up on Christmas)! I've listened to the whole album now. I'll give my first impressions as best I can before I pass out. I was pretty anxious listening to the first 3 songs, while I love all of those, I was ready to listen to the new tunes. Then, I watched the Selflessness premiere. I REALLY love Selflessness! It's so different from the rest, so forward. That chorus is delightful to listen to, and the violin kicking in after is perfect. I liked it even more when I listened to it in the album. It might be my favorite chant! It does make me a little sad that it's the shortest of them all, but I can't complain since I like everything that's in it. Truth was not what I was expecting at all, it feels so much like a lullaby! I was expecting something that felt a little more... country I guess. At first I was a little thrown off, but that honesty really shines through, and I think it shows a side of our favorite orange applebucking pony that we don't see very often in other fanworks. It's a truly beautiful song, it subverted my expectations in the best way. Onto Allegiance! This was interesting to listen to right after Truth. To be frank, I'm not as big a fan of this track as I am of the others. I do like parts of it, the harmonies feel like a throwback to Immortality which is appropriate for the last Chant. It feels like a Chant, in a way I don't think Truth or Selflessness sound like "chants" as much as the others, but I do really like them anyways. It was much closer to my expectations to how a chant for Rainbow would sound. Sort of militaristic, and always moving forward. I'm not sure why I don't like it as much as the others yet, it's certainly not bad, but I really love the other 5 compared to this one. I'm sure there are others who will like it though. Right now my rankings (subject to change after listening a dozen more times sometime later) are: 1st: Immortality 2nd: Selflessness 3rd: Benevolence 4th: Truth 5th: Mirth 6th: Allegiance I'm gonna fall asleep.... but ohoho, those acoustic versions. Immortality immediately gave me chills. You could release a new version of that song every 2 years and I would love it every time. Maybe inspired by Woodlore's cover (which I also love)? Either way, I'll take it! Mirth... those lyrics hit so hard, they're so clear! I've never felt like singing along to a song so much before. I LOVE this version, it surpasses the original for me! Those harmonies are still there! Your acoustic covers have always been superb, but this takes the cake straight out of Sugarcube Corner! I had to listen to it a few times before I was ready to move on. I really love the original Benevolence, and this song probably changed the least in the conversion to acoustic. This is still very enjoyable to listen to, and like I said with the original, it feels like it's straight out of Kaer Morhen from The Witcher. Soooo, it's probably way too soon to ask... but are we getting acoustic versions of the 3 new songs eventually? I'm joking, just joking! In seriousness, it would be cool to get those if you ever feel up to it. But feel free to take a break from chanting for a while. The concert version of Immortality is still great, I've been listening to that since it came out. Finally, to Life Outside. I'm intimidated by the featuring list! You're not gonna make me cry are you? After listening, I don't know what to say about this song other than what a great cherry on top it is. It's stunning. Overall, I need to sleep. Hopefully this is somewhat coherent! I've been a fan of yours for a long time, so it was really cool to get all of this at once. Thank you for completing the collection. We don't get to see stuff like this get completed sometimes, so even if it took a while, it's always great to see something become whole. And there's some absolutely excellent bonuses in there! TL;DR I highly recommend listening to the whole album! Selflessness, Truth, the acoustic versions of Immortality and Mirth, and Life Outside are truly wonderful, I'm going to be replaying them many times for years to come. Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and GOOD NIGHT!
