Thanks Jack, was a good trip yesterday and glad you've got much more ideas for places to walk. As I said, Khlong San is a good place to wander, pretty much on the route I took on the video, paralell to the river. As you're a city person you'll like the chaos of Wongwian Yai and from there you can take the train to the market where the trains passes through. Good trip through undeveloped and raw Bangkok.

Cheers mate, I think it's the home cooking taste they got going at Stay Cafe that makes it a cut above everywhere else I try, even that famous place Mama in Pahurat, which is still good though. Maybe that's an idea for you. Mama is next to the canal, great setting and always busy. Prices are ok, definitely better than Sukhumvit prices for Indian food. Alif Laila in Nana do Pakastani and a few other places in Soi Arab would be interesting for vids too.

I haven't visited any of these places. They all look great. I will try to go to some of them on my next travels. However from the few live music places I have visited in TH, I find that they always play the music far too loud for conversation, and that's why I go out with people I like. Music being Far Too Loud does seem to be a very common thing in TH as the Thais appear to prefer 'Loud' over 'Good' when it comes to music... (try a 'Mor Lam' concert... and take ear plugs!). So I tend to choose sports bars as although they can also be unbearably loud, they often aren't. The Kiwi Pub off Soi 8 was probably the main one I frequented but in May it didn't look like the place would be re-opening any time soon (also the Pizza place opposite Kiwi Pub is excellent!).

Your videos are far more ‘down to earth’ than most I’ve seen. My brother lived in Thailand from about 2005-18, when he died from what I was told was a heart attack. My brother Raoul was nearly five years younger than me, he seemed to enjoy living there, but I am not sure it was good for him. But anyway, being English, I have seen a hell of a lot of English pubs over the years, they are, to many of us, a valuable cornerstone in our local communities. Unfortunately, they are disappearing at an alarming rate. The village I live in lost all three of them in the last 15 years, there is no pub here now. But, my comment relates to having found ‘English pubs ’ abroad fail to capture the atmosphere of thei pubs here. I also notice that there is a proliferation of ‘Irish pubs’ overseas - though I am not able to say whether these are authentic or otherwise. The closest thing to an English pub, I encountered was an underground affair in Melbourne Australia, called the ‘Dickens Bar’. Once inside, it actually even looked and smelled like part ( people were still smoking then), but it fell down badly in practice- Australians think there is something odd about a person, if you try to strike up a conversation, unless you were friends of theirs. Being over 70 might make a difference, but I don’t travel overseas these days a)because I can’t be bothered with all the nonsense and inconvenience of airports b) I can’t afford business or first class anymore and c) I can go anywhere in.Europe by train or car.
