nope, but in my 18 years of driving I've never run out of gas, so why would I run out of charge. it's about planning ahead, just like you do with a gas engine. Not a lot of people carry spare gas in their cars, in fact, I don't know a single person that does. What if your 2 gallons doesn't get you to a gas station? what if your cell phone is dead and you cant call AAA? see, we can all play the "what if" game, plan ahead and you do fine....

I have a 2016 Nissan Leaf - 30kw version - and I LOVE IT !!!! My diesel car was costing £200-£220 a month in fuel, and thats now down to £20-£25 a month!! My 3 year PCP is only costing £275 a month on a 3 year PCP deal so instead of driving an 11 year old car - I'm now able to drive a brand new top of the range Leaf! Full of features, large touch screen for DAB, Sat-Nav, Bluetooth phone/music, keyless entry, voice controlled, etc. I love the sat-nav! The GPS is constantly on for tracking, traffic news and safety camera notifications so regardless if you use it or not - it doesn't drain your battery. And when you type in a postcode, the car warns you if you don't have enough charge to make the journey and then gives you charging points along your route to make as a waypoint. The android smartphone app works in the same way and you can send your journey from the phone to the car. You can also remotely switch on the car's heating from your phone if you know your about to jump in it! The car works on the "Carwings" system so is permanently connected to the internet for traffic news, map/charging point updates etc and you can use the phone app to track your car! I also love the fact we're heading towards winter and the car has a nifty Monday to Sunday week planner. This is so I can specify what days I leave for work and what time I plan to depart. So Monday to Fridays I punch in 7:30am, and 10 minutes before hand it blasts the car with hot air to warm it up. Demisting the windows and warning the car up for me - using the house electric rather the the battery on the car which it's still connected to the charger!!! How freakin' awesome is that!!! I brought the car from new - only had it around 6 months and received it with only 5 miles on the clock - now it's just under 10,000. Some people will never be converts or believers, and that's fine - but don't knock it until you try it! I'm looking forward to when my 3 years is up as I totally intend to get another! Nissan are working on a 60kw battery being released late 2017 or early 2018 and Tesla is bringing out a 100kw battery. So the 3 years I have my car the battery landscape is going to change so much. As mentioned, I have the bigger 30kw battery which is fine for me. I travel 70 miles a day on average, and some days 105 miles (different site) - and I've never run out of battery. On paper my car can do 155 miles. I only do motorway miles, so that equates to around 125-130 motorway miles. I can do my longer journeys with still having 20 miles left on my clock, and my shorter journeys with 60 miles on the clock.The regenerative braking is weird... as some parts of the journey you can see your mileage going up - not down! bizarre !! Owning a Leaf (or any EV) is about having a slightly different mindset when driving. And I'm loving the fact my car is re-teaching me how to be a better driver and be more energy conscience with my driving. The ECO Tree game/competition built in can easily be overlooked, but the more careful you drive, the more trees in terms of emissions you save. You can see how well your driving compared with others in your country or even worldwide by the phone app. It helps gives you more incentive to drive more efficiently. I'm currently getting 3.9kw per mile, and at 2p per mile - I'm laughing!!! A typical nightly charge will be costing me £1 - £1.40 depending how I've been driving it during the day. I would be hard pushed to go back to diesel/petrol - only if I really had too due to my situation - but I've tasted the future, and I'm so loving it !!!! To charge it it takes 30 minutes from a petrol station from 0 to 80%, and will now cost £6 - which gives (in a 30kw car) around 100 miles. Unless you're an Ecotricity customer for your house electric than it's FREE - the £6 fee is waived!!! Nissan showrooms also have chargers which are free to use, and over 10,000 chargers in the UK alone! 98% of motorway services cater for EV charging so you'll never be stuck.

ShR33k your usage and commute sound exactly the same as mine. I'd love to get a 30kw top of the range Leaf for £275 per month, approx 20,000 miles per year, but I can't find one. May I ask where your PCP is from please?
@ShR33k
7 жыл бұрын
The basic package/deal at the time was £200 a month for only 5,000 miles - on a 24kw. I contacted Chorley Group (www.chorleynissan.co.uk) to get a personal quote for an extra 15,000 miles added (making 20,000 in total) as they wanted 8p a mile for any miles done over the 5,000 mileage allowance. For me that would of cost an extra £1200 a year - or an extra £100 a month. Chorley Group gave me the extra allowance for something like £42 extra. Upgrading the battery to a 30kw cost me something like £22 a month extra as the test drive vehicle (24kw) I felt didn't have enough range. I'm also paying £11 or so a month for Gap insurance - making £275 in total. It came with a free universal adaptor, and a free Pod-Point S3 (standard) home charger. I paid Pod-Point at the time an extra £99 to get the fast charger S7 version. My car doesn't have a fast charging circuit - I've never had an issue as I just charge it over-night like I do with my phone. But the idea was, in 3 years when the PCP is finished, I hand the car back and get an upgrade - which then might have a fast charging circuit as standard, then I wont need to spend £650-£700 on a new home charger. Also in 3 years, battery technology would of improved giving better range. I've only had a couple of close calls - but had the car a year now and can pretty much judge my journeys well. I've never completely run out of power! As long as you plan any extraordinary/unusual journeys, you'll be fine. charge.pod-point.com/nissan-leaf/?Adwords&Ad-Extention&All-Terms&Nissan-Extension&gclid=Cj0KEQiA_eXEBRDP8fnIlJDXxsIBEiQAAGfyoVF9rL5w7usNnJgMzsXf6Vy2p7Ytlk-07YsXNESaqBUaAg1a8P8HAQ The 30kw bettery (labelled as 155 miles) - I generally get 115 or so motorway miles which is fine for me. I haven't been to a petrol station in a year! My house electric/gas supplier has been changed to Ecotricity - so if I do need to charge on a motorway service station it's free of charge, otherwise it's £6 for 30 minutes.

but till this day, EVs still have 2 fatal weaknesses: almost non-existent infrastructure and super inefficient battery technology. not being able to find charging stations anywhere you want, taking hours and hours to charge up and batteries taking up a staggering portion of vehicles' total weight (low energy density) are all the reasons your EV is going to be confined into a small circle around your house and maybe your workplace. no matter how juicy the spec or the price is, i'm not even gonna look into EVs until those two problems are addressed.

+Peida Li Availability of Charging stations depends on where you live. Where I live, a supermarket chain has built a charging station in the car park for ppl with electric cars to charge. I have never seen an electric car there. That that means is that the infrastructure is definitely there, but no one is buying one because nobody has got the balls to buy one. Most people use their cars to drive to work and other daily stuff. For long trips once or twice a year they can use another car. but for 99% of the year, an electric car is enough for most people.

+Peida Li That is what the thinking behind hydrogen cars is. You have the efficiency of an electric motor combined with the energy density of hydrogen. Of course the infrastructure and fuel cell inefficiencies are a problem there. Regardless most people's daily trips fall within the range of electric cars. They drive to work and back home and can charge up over night. Infrastructure will be addressed soon. Electricity is a much more usable form of energy than oil is.

I wouldn't mind owning an electric car if I lived in a city and the majority of my driving was urban. The only issue that seems to prevent electric cars from being popular is the battery. A decent all electric car seems to be superior in all categories except range and top speed. Which it probably why the Prius has been such a success. Now Toyota might also be ahead of the game again with their hydrogen car. It's all electric but will have an advantage with range once their is a larger fueling infrastructure.
@Robbedem
8 жыл бұрын
+Bobby0345 I know 3 reasons not to buy an electric car: - higher initial cost (often more than you would save by not having to buy fuel) - shorter range - slow recharge time The first problem will probably improve over the years when electric cars become more mainstream and the last might be solved with a swappable battery system (if the industry can come up with a standard) The middle will always be a problem, but if you can swap batteries quickly, range will be less of a problem.
@alexanderkasady6839

KYDashcam- Yeah, but a Prius is not an electric car- it's a hybrid. The only PRACTICAL way for an electric motor to work in an automobile is in the role as a supplemental power source, not as the sole power source. Charge time, charge time, charge time, charge time. As soon as they fix that, we're there. As soon as they do that *I'll* seriously consider buying one and you'll see them go mainstream, but not until then. Anything more than about 20 mins to refuel? No thanks. People will accept significantly reduced range (e.g. 200 miles instead of 600 or 800) if they can refuel in the same amount of time it takes them with a gasoline-powered car, but not when it takes 9 hours or even 1 hour.
@EngineeringExplained

The way I look at Ev's is that they're for a daily city car, so you charge every night like your cell phone and unless you travel 200 miles a day on average the charge time won't actually take that long, I don't think someone should buy this with the intention of a single vehicle, you should probably have something else as well.

They come with electronic assist steering, braking, and throttle control. When those modules break, they are EXTREMELY expensive. And they are going to break, end of story. EV's have a realistic lifespan of 10-20 years, because by the time the batteries go bad, it's no longer economically viable to buy new batteries (unless you own a tesla). You might as well get a new car. You don't need to fix it, which is good because you CAN'T fix it.

It's interesting to compare the maintenance requirements of a Leaf with a Volt. Remember, on the Volt, the gas engine rarely runs, so the maintenance requirements are way less than with a regular gas engine car. For example, with our driving pattern, our Volt seems to require: 1) An oil change about every 40,000 miles, or every 2 years, as directed by the oil life indicator. Note that the Volt requires full synthetic oil, like most new cars. 2) An air filter change - hmmm - since the engine rarely runs, its totally clean - we'll probably never have to change it. 3) Coolant change - for any car (including a BEV), you should change the coolant every 5 years. The stuff ages. 4) Brakes - since most of the brake power is regenerative, we'll probably never need to replace the brake pads. 5) Transmission fluid - I doubt we'll ever need to change it. 6) Spark plugs - we'll never need to change them. A lot of people don't get this initially. With the Volt, if you drive it 200,000 miles, the gas engine has probably only been used for 40,000 miles. How much maintenance does a gas engine require at 40,000 miles? The bottom line is that with a Leaf or a Volt, you'll need to bring it in to rotate the tires more than anything else...

Efficiency - That's why people compare Well to Wheel for internal combustion engines. Electricity looses its efficiency in generation and transmission. But you are correct, the best gasoline engines are 33% efficient and electric would probably be considered 80 to 85%. One of the nice use of the waste heat from an IC engine is environmental control. The big drawback for me is range, I drove my Impala 1500 miles to Phoenix in 36 hours, with a trailer carrying my motorcycles. The Leaf doesn't really work in that scenario.

+TheMTrider16 From FuelEconomy.gov (link in video description) "Electric vehicles convert about 59%-62% of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels-conventional gasoline vehicles only convert about 17%-21% of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels."

@UppsalaHenrik

+Mika Sjölund It does, obviously depending on how you use it. If you go for many short drives and let the car cool completely inbetween, then I'm sure you can lose 20% of the range (an ICE car would also have bad fuel economy in that situation). If you do long trips the effect should be smaller though as the battery pack will be kept warm.

Since im considering a new car, would your suggestion be still to lease an electric or buy a hybrid (volt or prius)? Another great video. But I have a quibble with the point about energy efficiency. It is true, but misleading because it's not comparing like with like. Electrical energy such as you get out of your mains supply is a very low-entropy energy source so it's much easier for the motor to be efficient. And of course that electrical energy has to be made, usually in heat engines (or in even less efficient ways like PV cells). When comparing efficiency, it almost makes more sense to think of the motors in an EV as a transmission rather than as an engine. The engine is in the power station. Car engines these days have amazing efficiency considering that they are heat engines and you are carrying them around with you. They are much higher-tech than the simple electric motors in EVs and deserve credit for that :)

@CockatooDude
8 жыл бұрын
Eduardo Boquin You are assuming things about me without knowing anything, I like driving just like you do, however, the world needs to move on from burning a resource which is running out. The battery technology I mentioned earlier, which uses graphene, has a higher energy density then gasoline, which is the reason why the car could do an entire race without refueling once. And that is over 2500 miles on a charge! Besides, just because a car is electric, doesn't mean it has to be boring. There are some crazy electric racing cars which are about as connected to the road as you can get. No vibration from the engine to dampen road feel means you feel everything the road has to offer. Anyway, to address your point about saving the planet, I do know about the meat thing, and I try to limit the amount I eat yes. Also, while a lot of power is currently produced by coal, nuclear fusion technology, which is the opposite of fission, as in atoms are combined rather than split, would make waste free energy, and in massive amounts too. Combine that with electric cars and the world can be completely sustainable in the energy sector.

@JeffKubel
8 жыл бұрын
+scanspeak00 1) The batteries are more expensive and *may* have a shorter life than a traditional gas engine/transmission. This makes the car have a higher initial cost (which can be recouped with gas / maintenance savings). 2) They have batteries which are less energy dense than gasoline, thus you can't go as far on a single fill up. 3) It takes longer to recharge (about 10x slower than gas with Supercharger). And that's all I can think of. Electric cars are really much better than gas cars. Model S has proven it. Model 3 will make it a reality for most of us.
@scanspeak00

***** 4) No performance engine sound 5) High depreciation?? 6) Video game driving experience. No driver involvement. 7) More accidents due to no noise and high torque at low rpm. 8) Environmental costs of old batteries. 9 No redundancy. Power grid goes out and you're screwed. 10) How to tax road users who drive electric cars (normally done through gas taxes) ?
@IndyFlick
8 жыл бұрын
+scanspeak00 +Jeff Kubel Batteries energy density continues to improve and battery costs are dropping. On the other hand, in gas cars CVT's can be VERY expensive to replace BTW. The car does make an artificial noise at low speed to warn pedestrians. Old batteries are 100% recycled, they're valuable. If the power grid goes down you're also screwed in a gas car. Without power the gas station can't pump gas. Road tax (like in Washington state) is added on to your annual vehicle registration. Other states will be following this model. I've owned a LEAF for over five years. My total maintenance costs have been 4 annual battery check (at the dealership), 2 cabin filters, one set of wiper blades, and a new set of tires last fall. My local tire shop rotated the tires every 6 months for free. Also, I've had the brake fluid tested several times and its fine. It's by far the least expensive car I've ever owned. Also, I produce the charge for the LEAF from my solar array. I can produce electrons but I can't produce gasoline!
@BraveRock
8 жыл бұрын
+scanspeak00 the model s really hasn't lost as much value as other traditional cars. This is due in part to the battery pack being a big part of the cost of the car. Once the battery pack looses a significant amount of charge, then it can be repurposed as a home back up battery. I've heard of one model so that has dropped to 80% capacity after a half million miles. So we are still waiting on a large number of batteries that can be used as home back up. Once those batteries are finished as home back ups, the batteries can be recycled for the base elements. Gas tax makes up a very small portion of the funds needed to maintain roads. The rest of your reasons come down to personal preference.

#4 Is N/A to wide majority of drivers due to not owning a home, condo, townhouse, etc which you can have an electric charging station installed. Most apartments (at least in the DMV area) do not have any plans for charging stations or allow the installation for the very few/no EV owners in the communities (let alone the running of a cord from an individual dwelling). In the DC/Maryland area I have come across one public charging station which is a new garage built at a commuter train station. EV's are very good in the ways you state but still require a massive overhaul of power grid which was rated at a D+ in the 2013 report by the ASCE, a mass switch to that system would cripple it. All in all still a good video as always keep it up!

A 2013 Nissan Leaf owner here and you missed one of my favorite reasons for an electric car - no transmission. Now every time I have to drive an ICE car, the shifting annoys me. Sure modern computer controlled transmissions are smoother than the old hydromechanical ones, but they still have a perceptible shift - with the Leaf, pure, smooth power all the way. Now this was not something I understood until I had had my car for a while, but you forget what shifting is like driving an EV. Also, I find the decoupling of HVAC and "engine power" to be another of those things you forget about until you have to drive an ICE. With the climate control timers, when I get in my car every morning, it is already warmed up (or cooled down) and ready to go. With my work truck, I have to scrape the frost off the windows and/or defog them in the winter. Not a big deal, but like having to stop for gas, it is one of those little wastes of time that you don't realize you had until it is fixed by an EV.

lolatmyage Race fuel is really not that different from normal petrol fuel and can be produced in tandem. My point is that pumping oil costs Millions which you simply cannot earn back from selling such small quanitities to ordinary people that don't have millions. Ethanol is a good solution I agree with that. But seriously, what are you going to mod on electric cars? Tesla's for instance only get serviced by the tesla dealer. You need more than average skill and a LOT of expensive equipment. I work at a garage and my boss said it would cost the shop 150.000€ to purchase the necessary equipment. You can ofcourse do the wheels and some other small parts but they'll more than likely disallow that in the future, voiding warranty if you do. That's my biggest issue

INFsleeper For example mess with the coding and make the engine run past its safe limits to a point, just like with combustion engines. Im not that good at electrics so I dont know if its so easy but I remember playing with those small rc car motors and making them run way faster by doubling the amount of batteries for example. Heat becomes a major concern and range would take a hit as well but everything has a tradeoff. If engine swaps are possible then that would also become a market

I just wish electric cars weren't either so expensive (Model S), butt-ugly (Leaf, Mirai, iMiev, Model 3), tiny (Smart, iMiev), pathetic range (Spark EV, iMiev, Leaf, Smart) and/or exercises in taxpayer-funded circlejerking (Volt, the tax incentive in the US for buying any EV). They also take forever to charge, making long trips impractical even with a charging infrastructure; I've yet to encounter one that can be flat-towed; vehicle fires in hybrids/electrics can be a pain to extinguish, though I commend fire departments the world over for adapting; and most of the hybrids and electrics I've seen for sale try too hard to appeal to the environmentalist demographic in their design and construction.
@t0mmiiiii

Do you really wish the electric cars wouldn't have those (subjective) downsides? Otherwise you would have to make up other negative points to legitimize your negative viewpoint. You are also leaving out cars that do fit your criteria (e-golf, focus electric, although I don't like them). But if you don't want to go electric, don't.
@SamnissArandeen
8 жыл бұрын
I'm not making up reasons to justify a preconcieved viewpoint; if anything, you're making up reasons to deny someone saying that, yes, there do happen to be downsides to EV ownership. I would love to go electric at least in part, but the downsides do prevent me from going that route, at least for now. Some are subjective, I will give you that - the image of EVs right now being the car of the smug hippie environmentalist jackass paints all EV drivers in a negative light, and I want no part of that. I did not cite every single EV on the market as an example; to do so would be impractically long and needlessly complex. Besides, the ones I've mentioned are the only ones I have actual, physical experience with driving (or, in the case of the Bolt and Model 3, experience with their predecessors combined with some estimation on my part) and learned of the advantages/disadvantages firsthand. I'm also baffled by your assertion that taxpayer-funded subsidies and rebates on electric/hybrid vehicle ownership is a "subjective" downside. If electrons were such a great automotive energy source, I wouldn't have to have a chunk of my paycheck forcibly taken from me just so The Fed can bribe me with my own money to buy a particular car - the electric car should be able to compete with traditional sources of propulsion without coercion or outside assistance. Range, weight, and charging times are also "subjective downsides" to you? Mate, when you have to make 150 mile interstate trips as part of your job, having a car that can go the distance is key. When you're on call and have to report to the office with 15 minutes' notice, being able to quickly recharge/refuel (as you can with gasoline) is quite important, as well as damn convenient the rest of the time. When you want to go on a track day for the weekends, having a lightweight car (remember, batteries are heavy - batteries account for 1,200 lb of the 4,700 lb Tesla Model S curb weight) that can handle the corners is key - and there's the convenience thing again, as I can just pull into the pits and get a splash of fuel to head back out. Granted, I do plan on two car ownership so I can have a dedicated weekend-warrior track car, allowing me to focus my daily driver on efficient transportation, but that's impractical given my current living situation. Also granted, the battery industry is improving the battery technology, but it's slow going.

+t0mmiiiii Batteries as a technology are not particularly well fir to be charged fast (that's why time to time interest for supercapacitors surges), or have large amounts of energy stored (as a baseline they carry the oxidiser in themsleves, and to add insult to injury, the chemical reactions used don't make the most dense energy storage, so people time to time take interest in energy cells, just to be disappointed by catalyst problems... mainly $$$)

+Samniss Arandeen Maybe i was a bit too harsh, of course there are downsides and i thought you were focusing on them too much. But i do think that for a lot of people electric cars are a good choice at this moment. What i meant with "(subjective)" is that some downside you mentioned are subjective. Ofcourse cheaper is better. For the subsidy argument, fossil fuels also have subsidies: direct by giving a discount in some countries, and indirect by not charging externalities like health problems. I do agree that electric cars are not that great for racing, not only weight but also because you're missing the engine noise and gears as a reference for the speed you are going. In the end, i love my gasoline motorcycle but would buy a small sporty electric vehicle this moment that could charge in an hour, and i think electrics have the future. For the whole world it would take some years though, and in poor countries i think even in 50 years gasoline will be used by the majority. We'll see and it's good that you've got an opinion also based on experience.

How long does an average battery on a electric car/truck last? I live out in the middle of no where, and I am thinking about picking up an electric truck (a truck mostly because I learned the hard way that you can't see over much with a car low to the ground where I'm at). The biggest things I'm worried about is the cost and how long will the battery last. As far as I know, there is no charging stations within 2 or so hours from me. How quickly does the battery lose charge when not in use? I have a 98 caviler that I had to replace the battery 20 or 25 times during the 10 years I had it. I notice that if I don't use it at least 1 time per every 2 weeks. I most likely will have to charge the battery. Oh and how well do they stand with being outside all the time? Right now I wouldn't have the option of keeping it inside.

wow, an incredible video! It is just astonishing that someone would actually say these things, these truths. Of course in no way does this sway those who are not excited about the potential of electric cars. They will never come around - but that is fine, perfectly fine. Nobody should worry that they will be forced to drive an electric car, seriously - don't worry about it, the Leaf is not here to hurt you, it is just one car. As for me I'm looking for an electric skateboard. I have a postulate that an electric skateboard with an in-wheel motor will "free-wheel" unlike one designed with a belt - to put it simply, you can't kick when there is a belt because without power it will feel like molasses. In contrast if the motor is inside the wheel and there is no belt ... if you turn the power off, you can kick and it will feel like a normal skateboard and yes, you can ride it home if you run out of power or if you have a breakdown. If it's belt-driven, I suppose you can disconnect the belt to be able to ride it home without power. You might wonder why I'm talking about an EV (Electric Vehicle) in the form of an electric skateboard. I bought an electric bike many years ago just being curious how a little hub motor could actually propel you, and wow, yeah it works. Since then I've ridden many EVs of many different sizes. It's all pretty amazing.

5 Reasons Not To Buy An Electric Car: 1. the battery range is short and hard to pin point the real range. You will be stuck for towing. And you need a second gasoline vehicle for some real drivings. 2. The battery deteriorates as years go by fast, even harder to pin point the range. 3. It is expensive to replace batteries. 4. The processes of making and discarding batteries pollute "a lot more" than gas engine, and that carbon foot prints is NOT accounted for when promoting EVs. 5. Instead of thinking something worth a while, you worry about your trips constantly and calculating your trips all the time. Waste of human intelligence. 6. When flooded, ?will people be electrocuted. 7. Battery fire after impact. 8. Take too long to charge. 9. For a man, I like to work on my cars. 10. The battery range also depends on the temperature of the moment. I like your shows, but bet you don't have an EV in your garage. Need tech break through, like fuel cells, hydrogen, NEW battery technologies, an so on.

"1. the battery range is short and hard to pin point the real range." That depends on the size of the battery. " You will be stuck for towing." Funny how many electric cars there are in some parts of the world, and how very few of them are actually stuck for towing. "And you need a second gasoline vehicle for some real drivings." That is a valid point for many use cases. Points 2 and 3 I have no issue with. "4. The processes of making and discarding batteries pollute "a lot more" than gas engine, and that carbon foot prints is NOT accounted for when promoting EVs." I don't think this is a valid point. Refining gasoline takes enormous amounts of electricity, often from coal power, and that carbon footprint is not accounted for when promoting gasoline cars either. So pots and kettles, and all that. "5. Instead of thinking something worth a while, you worry about your trips constantly and calculating your trips all the time. Waste of human intelligence." The only waste of human intelligence is not using it. "6. When flooded, ?will people be electrocuted." No? "7. Battery fire after impact." Gasoline fire after impact. "8. Take too long to charge." Valid point. "9. For a man, I like to work on my cars." For a man, I don't. Nice how we all can have different hobbies. (Notice how I'm not saying that your hobby is a waste of human work.) "10. The battery range also depends on the temperature of the moment." So when it's warmer you'll get better range, yeah?

a huge part of the character of a car is the intake and exhaust sound ... since electric cars are mostly silent, I'd love a video that gets into the nitty gritty of what factors into a "great sounding car". For intake, presumably it's down to shape of the orifice and the volume of air passing through it? For exhaust, it's the pattern of the pulses, the volume of gas in each, and how each pulse is shaped through the exhaust system ... ? What makes a straight six sound so much better than a v6, and a lousy 4 pot different from a glorious one?
Sadly, for those of us who can only own ONE new car, electric is NOT an option. Need to go more than a hundred miles in a day? Nope, outta luck. Live in most parts of Texas it's not uncommon to have to drive that far -- and then back. Most employers do NOT have charging stations in most parts of the US. If you live in an apartment, good luck getting a charge at home either. And those leases on electrics usually have a HUGE depreciation hit at the end when the residual turns out to not be as high as was calculated at the onset.
