What about distributed divendends from listed stocks such as Apple, Nike, etc? Are they taxed? I've read it's not being taxed but I want to make sure I dont misunderstand.
@HappyLifeAbroad

Good question! They are taxed by Americans. If you are buying from an American exchange through an Estonian broker, the tax from dividends is withheld by the American IRS.

IHi! I'm sorry if it's too long to read, but I hope you see it! so, I've been researching a bit about countries to live in after I complete my degree (double degree in astrophysics and electronics engineering). I don't want to be seen as a burden or be discriminated against, nor I want to compete with millions of other people and struggle to find residence. My first idea was to move to Canada, since it seems open to foreigners, both French and English are manageable languages, but I got increasingly worried about their city planning and cost of living which might resemble the US (I don't want car focused cities with poor quality of living while also losing all the job opportunities that are in the US). A lot of countries in Europe like Italy, Germany, the UK have high costs of living while also dealing with millions of migrants. That's why I've been considering Estonia, being a member of the EU and NATO are great factors about it (I'm not resentful towards Russia or Russians but I don't want to live in a 2nd Ukraine, I don't want to ever live a war). The people, cities and nature are huge factors as well. What worries me the most is what kind of job would I have there, will they have prejudice against me for being Latin-American? Will they value my degree? (Even though I trust I will be a capable professional and my university is reasonably well ranked in most rankings, 121 the QS I fear they will doubt my skills as a professional and that I will struggle to get a decent wage). What is the best city to live in? I don't know, if you have any insights that could inform me better about the country would be greatly appreciated!
@HappyLifeAbroad

Hi Carlos! I haven't felt any discrimination. I think the "discriminating" factor will be the need for a visa. And that's why many companies would rather prefer people from Estonia or EU to make life easier. But if let's say you have some particular set of skills and some niche application area, that can be a deciding advantage. I don't know about the value of the degree exactly. For example, in IT no one really cares about your diplomas. It's all about the skills that you show in the interviewing process and your experience. Maybe it's the same with electrical engineering. And I don't think that they will offer you significantly less in terms of salary than to someone with a local degree. It is more of "to hire or not to hire?" question. The best from a professional perspective is of course Tallinn. Good luck!

In my opinion it’s time to let Estonia be a nice small Nordic country. Estonia very deserves to be a Nordic country, because Estonia has done a lot of work, we have many smart people, we are good at digital things, we have northern lights and we are very similar to Finland and other Nordic countries like: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Greenland. We are not similar to Latvia and Lithuania and the other Eastern Europe countries. It’s time to stop calling Estonia Eastern Europe country and Baltic country and forget all this terrible, rude and mean Soviet times. Let’s just stop this Eastern Europe and Soviet stigma thing and let Estonia turn the new page and let them be a normal small Nordic country next to Sweden and Finland!!! Estonians call themselves the Nordic country and many other people and tourists had also said that Estonia should be a Nordic country, because Estonian people are Finnic people not Balts and we are more similar to Scandinavia. Yes many people had agreed with that Estonia must belong to the Nordic group and seperate from Latvia and Lithuania. They don’t even need these countries, because Estonians communicate more with Finns and other Scandinavian countries. Estonia will be a very good partner for the other Nordic countries. We will do a very great work and we will be very strong!!! ☺️🙏

Why do I find this comment so cute!? I'll call Estonia a "nice small Nordic country" from now on if it'll make you happy. You can be a part of our club. I'll have to ask the council of Nords of course but you have my vote you adorable little Estonian. From Sweden with love 😊

@Aamer Zaido Well, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.. Personally, I think the women are generally more beautiful in the Ukraine, Israel, or Russia.. But then again, that's physical beauty.. I not to sure the aforementioned countries have the friendliest people..I wouldn't want to have a beautiful, hot mama that has a piss poor attitude.. I would much rather have an average looking lady with a great, honest personality.

and how to emigrate to Estonia? i am 35
@HappyLifeAbroad
3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I personally immigrated as an EU citizen. In this case, the procedure is very straightforward. You simply need to register your place of residence (renting an apartment is the easiest option) and then you can apply for a local ID card giving you the right of residence. Unfortunately, I don't know much about immigration from a non-EU country. You can find out more here: www.workinestonia.com/coming-to-estonia/. Also, in general, this website is very helpful. Despite its name, it is NOT only for those who immigrate for work. Good luck!

Couple of things about Estonia that are negatives for Expats.. Most likely.... 1. Weather. 2. Language. Other than that, it seems pretty nice to me.. At any rate, I'm leaving for Estonia in 4 days.. I shall find out for myself how it is to live in Estonia..I plan on riding a bike throughout Tallinn and surrounding areas... I'm bringing my rain gear with the expectation of plenty of wet stuff falling from the heavens...
