One thing that I think really matters: caliber. Many calibers do really well out of a short barrel like .300 blackout or 7.62x39, but then you have their counterparts like 5.56 or 5.45 that do well out of a standard length barrel

I never got the point of 5.56s over that sweet spot of about 12", seems to me that as an individual user you may as well just go with a larger caliber if your rifle's already gonna have a full sized battle rifle footprint anyway. Like what actual task does a 20" 5.56 do irl that either a 12" 5.56 or an 18" .308/6.5 wouldn't have done better? Then you have calibers like 8.6 black and .277 entering the fray to potentially make even battle rifles obsolete if their barrels are longer than a foot or so too. We're quickly getting to a place where there's no technological reason for any rifle to be much bigger than a smg unless it's a literal anti-materiel rifle.

Canada was an AR "friendly" country from 1977 to 1995, you could hunt with them. In 1995, a new system was put in place that found the AR15 placed into the Restricted catagory, prohibiting it from being used anywhere but an approved range. In may of 2020, Justin Trudeau arbitrarily banned all AR rifles and various others based on how they look. 2 years later, under the guise of a handgun ban (Bill C21) an ammentment was added at the 11th hour to basically ban anything semiauto, centerfire, with a detachable mag. YET with these specifics, they still pushed to ban rifles not qualified for the ban. SKS is a good example. Justin Trudeau doesn't care about legal owners, he is pushing for full civil disarmament. All without increasing jail.time for criminals, or even speaking about bail reform to keep dangerous criminals in jail. Liberals will take away your rights, only if you let them.
@thecommunistdoggo1008

Alright Canadian laws updated to the time of this comment: Full autos non starter only gov/businesses We can own any centerfire semiautomatic which is not banned by name most are by name banned including but not limited to: AUG AR AK MP5 FAL G3 AR-18/180 Things we can own (for now) Type 81 CZ Bren 2 M1 Garand AR180B (yeah this makes a lot of sense) Handguns: Banned Shotguns: Same as rifles allowed if not banned by name such as the: Sagia 12 Spas 12 Things we can own: Benelli M4 and knockoffs Now for SBRs any long gun under 18.6" is registered as a "restricted firearm" (handguns used to be here as well) can only be shot at a range and has stricter storage laws. Mag laws: Pistols are limited to 10 Rifles to 5 (some of your US AR pistols allow us to have 10 round AR "pistol mags") Currently the government is trying to ban all semi automatic centerfire firearms with detachable magazines

1) Agree with you on ATF and the bullshit tax stamp. 2) They are no more or less loud than any other AR, port bark is higher with long barrels and pressure is higher with shorter barrels. Wear Earpro. 3) If you are shooting at the range during daylight, the flash is nothing. If you are shooting professionally than you are using a can, especially on an SBR and flash in the dark is moot. 4) I have a Surefire can with 90k rounds out of it, it has outlive two ARs. My suggestion would be to not buy shit cans. 5) To get a full powder burn with 556, you need a 24" barrel. It is not a tax, it is a tradeoff. For most people the smaller package and increased maneuverability is worth the tradeoff. If you want to get max velocity, get a long barreled AR like the military and police use (oh wait, they don't).

SBRs are cool for sure and with some designs it's still the only way to go, but the advent of the brace gets users of the most popular platforms *almost* all the way there in terms of functionality with none of the nonsense: Asking if it please the crown. The cost difference (because it's not just $100 vs $200. It's the best market price you can find for your brace vs $200 for permission to install whatever you separately pay for the stock). Any transfer of an SBR across state lines requires permission in advance. Because the top quality training facilities in the US are all over the place and we have a LOT of states with a LOT of lines compared to Canada, that's a legitimate limitation for more than just people living in proximity to borders. Every other detriment of SBRs, I would happily consider the cost of doing business and a trade-off I am free to make if I choose. Reason #1 is the only one that matters.

I agree with you. And the fee/waiting period aren’t the problem, it’s ultimately the legal restrictions associated with them that is, and is what would frustrate me most. The laws is where they lose me. I'd rather just stick with the larger, heavier rifle with more power, less flash, less noise, easier to handle, and with no shitty government overeach.

I believe they changed the requirements for sbr now. They ask for barrel lengths different calibers ECT and they have to match paper work. If I'm wrong please correct me I looked into it not long ago and decided it wasn't for me

i feel like the sbr is entirely dependent on caliber. a 10.3 mk18 shooting 5.56 isnt gonna be effective or super accurate past like 300 yards, where as .300 blk out of the same barrel length performs like a fucking champ and you can run subsonic which is great for suppressing

So you know he’s in Canadian. FJT. In USA: Can open carry anything here, conceal carry any type of pistol. Can ride in truck with whatever you want on your lap or whatever. Many have truck guns here, pistol magnets etc. I carry a scorpion or .300 pistol in my SXS- for bear or tyrants.

Short barrels suck because of serious concerns of paperwork and loss of energy, also less importantly they are noisy and bright, but being short has huge benefits for weight and maneuverability. Ok have you tried a suppressor? It gets rid of the very important weight and maneuverability benefits since it brings you right back to regular rifle length. Also, it adds more paperwork and still has loss of energy… but it won’t be bright and noisy!

A lot of the items on your list are easily resolved by correct ammo selection, such as .300blk or 8.6blk. IE The ammo the SBR is chambered in was actually designed for a shorter barrel format…
@scythewise
2 жыл бұрын
That may be so, but then you contend with sourcing so many different cartridges, powder loads, bullet weights, the bc of the bullet and supply.
@flynic3
2 жыл бұрын
@@scythewise The point is you choose the proper caliber for the application of the SBR, and you eliminate 80% of the negatives mentioned. Sourcing .300blk these days isn’t any worse than 5.56 and I am paying about 10cents more a round.

Ah yes spend 2$ per round and risk blowing up all your properly calibered rifles. The ONLY good subsonics are 7.62x39 because they don't share magazines with .223.
@flynic3
2 жыл бұрын
@@ravenwing199 to each their own, that is why there is options… but 7.62x39 wasn’t designed or intended for a shorter barrel application. The logic of “blowing up your barrel” is on par with 7.62x39 being superior out of a short barrel… and doesn’t really warrant a response. You may get 2,100fps on an 11” barrel, beyond the fact of cheaper powder, primers, lack of defense projectiles and very few soft points. Scythe, .5-.10cents a round over 5.56 is $25-50 more per 500… well worth the performance gains. All defense ammo typically run $1 per shot…
