Excellent advice. Have you ever done a video showing your sharpening equipment? I have only ever used two strops. One with a grey compound followed by a green finer grit. I would be interested in seeing you equipment especially how you sharpen gouges. Thank for all that you share with us,

I have thought about it. Didn't do it since I was trying to make videos they might relate to a bigger audience, but is a good idea still. Thanks!

Very good advices and also a happy carving for everyone! Yes, never carve when you are tired, upset, drinking alcohol or taking medication who doesn't let you to be focus. Never drive a vehicle or handling a gun or something similar in those cases. Thank you, Sir!

Great advice Van! I found a power sharpener 7 years ago and it made my carving so much more enjoyable. My knives were sharper and takes less effort to carve. I highly recommend finding a good power sharpener!

Thanks Van. I also found that buying sets of tools is not the way to go I don’t use all of them usually just one or two. I now buy individual tools. Cheers 🇦🇺

Thanks Van for this video. It is very helpful. I am new to carving and the most I have learned is through looking at videos and self taught. There are no carving clubs where I live and a lot of times it is trial and error for me. I would, however, appreciate your advice or direction on sharpening & honing. All the tools I have came presharpened. I keep them stropped. I have heard that is all you need if they come presharpened. But I can't help but think that, after using them for awhile, they would need to be sharpened to keep them really sharp. Unfortunately I don't know much about sharpening tools and i am reluctant to try my knives on a stone, etc. in fear of spoiling them. Do you have any suggestons? Thanks. I watch your channrl all the time.

Thank you for the advise! Its always welcome from a seasoned carver like yourself. Can you tell me what sharpening system are you using when you are sharpening your gouge on the video?
