Process, I think will take longer. I don't lift anything like I used to, I go for total control, lighter weights and higher reps. Get a good pump. My orthopedist tried to tell me I only needed 40 grams of protein a day because that’s what the US RDA is for older women. Um, I educated him it is more like 0.8-1.0 g/kg and this video supports that as well. You can’t get good nutritional advice from mainstream doctors. Thank you for all of your work to make these videos. Your messages are mainly directed at men but we older women are watching too, lots to learn from you.

It's not that this doctor or others are lying, there is a conceptual problem with western medicine, medicine thinks health lies in being average, being no more no less, it's that with BMI, it's that with exercising volume and intensity and it's like that with food. So when you find yourself disagreeing with a doctor, put this in consideration, they are not wrong, they are telling you how to be "Normal", it's not a bad thing to be normal, but it's a better thing to be more athletic be more healthy, there might be situations that you want to be normal, don't be discouraged to follow doctors' advices all together.
@cz2165

I know He wasn’t lying. He’s a good orthopedist, he did my knee replacement. But even us “normal” older women need more than 40 g of protein a day.( unless they are petite and only weigh 40-50 kg). And this doc is in great shape himself, he is 60 and looks like he did at 35, I know HE eats more than 40 g of protein a day. Check out Dr Peter Attia on KZitem, he goes into it more with data.

Great info! Thanks for confirming I’m on the right track. In 2012 I suffered a crushing neck injury that left me relegated to walking and hiking, due to a severe stenosis between my C3-C5 vertebrae. I had been training with some world class trainers while working at a major Bay Area University. As an employee, I had access to the best Olympic level trainers. My injury brought that to a screeching halt. Two years ago I finally had it repaired, after more than ten years of agony. September of last year, my wife and I started working out at our local gold’s Gym. I’m 73 years old. My body has responded well to my workout routine, which includes cardio, stretching and isolated anabolic sets. I’m not back to the weights that I lifted twelve years ago, but headed that way. I can say at this time, I’m actually in better shape than I was before my injury. Regained muscle tone, lost 35 lbs and have improved my strength and core stability. All the above has turned back the clock on this old timer! Age is not an excuse for not trying. Keep pushing, moving and learning. That is the true fountain of youth!

Increase INTENSITY doesn't mean to increase the amount of work you're doing: intensity doesn't mean to train MORE, but to train HARDER. In fact, in my personal experience, I maintain that as you get older and more experienced, you should train less and harder. At your very best, you train very little and very hard. Muscles recovers and builds up at rest. Quality, not quantity: this is intensity.

Another pro tip for older lifters like myself (I'm 54 as I write this and have been lifting consistently for 35 years) is do less weight on your lifts but higher reps. This way you still get your time under tension but minimize injury. So for example in your 20's if you regulary benched 225 lbs for reps (so 4 plates in total) for 8-12 reps now in your 40's do 165 but for 12-16 reps so you still get the benefits of the lift but minimize injury particularly to connective tissue and joints.

The "experts" about age and muscle also talk about age-related sarcopenia. - which IS NOT FAKE! Age does matter and atrophy occurs faster as we age. Will resistance training slow age-related sarcopenia. YES YES YES. But, strength will decrease with age because nerve conduction slows down. Just look at the ages of those who hold world records on sprinting and powerlifting and the Olympics. It's not the 50 year olds!! Yet, resistance training can do wonders as we age.

First off its a fact test levels decline with age, which have a significant impact of muscle growth and progress (as well sex drive, which also decreases with age usually). Also need to take into consideration how long a guy has been working out for and the wear and tear on his muscle. A guy whose new to the gym in his 40s is going to make way more progress than a guy whose been consistently training for decades, unless that guy using anabolics that is. Just take a look at all the 40+ years old in the gyms, compare the 40s and 50s with the guys 20s and 30s, probably 90% of the younger guys look better and lift heavier than the older guys. Of course there's exceptions but in general aging sucks and creeps up on all of us at different rates. And alot of the guys that started training young, the BBs who were super steady, they have so much wear and tear (joints, tendon issues) by 40-50 some of them can hardly train anymore.

It's more likely to get injured when you're old and once you get injured, you can't train for a while and that's zero workout during that period. Also.....hormones matters, it's so much easier to gain muscle when you're young.
