Awesome job on that saw, I am a Stihl technician in Canada and it's always good to see these older saws being repaired or restored.

Perfect explanation on tuning. Think i now understand. My ms290 is four stroking under load in the wood. ..so i think i need to lean it out a just a tad so that four stroking disappears in the wood but continues to four stoke out of the wood...tuning has always got me beat...still learning..hopefully i get there tom...might need to binge watch more of your brilliiant vids...been doing that quite a bit lately

Nice job n runs well n looks great as well. Have several 031s myself and an 030 as well. Sorry just being picky here but that is the wrong version of the start pull mechanism on that saw. That version should have a 2 screw model. I have one exactly the same as that saw and probably just as tidy. Has yet to see a log since I tidied it up recently

Hey Robert, thanks mate! I’m not sure what you mean 2 screw recoil, but if you have a link to the right one I’d really appreciate it!

@@VintageEngineRepairs just under the right side of the pull cord there is a small slot. On the later model 31s that wee slot has a small flat bit of metal washer bit that fits in there and then a screw that goes into the fuel tank on them. Yes the starter mechanism itself has 2 screws but the third one is actually into the fuel tank. Will photo one tomorrow and send it to you. Also it should have the saw and log logo on the ide of the starter. Not trying to be a pratt or anthing like that as you have made damn noice job and I have followed other vids you have done. Those older 31s in good nic are now a bit of a hard find these days

The internet and KZitem bring us together no matter where we may live. I’d like to ask you some “personal” questions if I may please. I live in farm country in the middle of the US, south central Nebraska. Where do you live? It’s obviously rural where this video was taken so is this your home? Thank you.
